Black friday and some observations, purely anectotal ok
Well I know my nanny's daughter in law needs a new netbook and I can get it far cheaper here in the States than she can in Mexico. So good news... I found one at a great price at Best Buys... bad news... though it was not a door buster it was still a lead loss leader, and they had half a pallet of them still. So that could be a good thing or a bad thing. And I did that at oh eleven in the morning.

Then we decided to go for lunch, why I don't know, to the local mall... to the pizza place. First the place was FULL. Second people were spending money. So anectodally, given I was at the same mall last year the place was busier.... so anectotally yes they should be better sales. Oh and yes, there were some interesting deals. If I were in the market for a new macbook, I definitely would have bought it today. For the price of a Macbook they had the Macbook pro... and yes that is much more of a puter.

So yes perhaps we will see better sales numbers. Oh and that also means that hubby should have more overtime this year. Hell, even ten percent more will be a good sign for the economy. I have said in the past that it is starting to look like it is showing signs of recovery, and I think it is.

1. I live an an economically battered state
and there were definitely signs of life today. Long ways to go, but as Obama said on election night "we will get there".

2. I am starting to think that my mid 2010 expectations of possitive job growth
may be a little negative and that we may be surprised and get it before that.

Don't know yet.

This could be just a fluke.

3. There is still a heavy set of job creation to do.
The massive job hemmoraging has slowed to a trickle...I am not too sure how much of the consumer confidence is inspired by reality.

You've got a nanny? I thought you guys had no kids.

4. I don't know how things were back at home today,
but there were a lot of people shopping here in western NC today. I had to leave a couple of stores today because they were so crowded.

10. no jobs, no recovery
until i see a noticeable uptick in job creation i'll take everything with a grain of salt. my DH and i recently retired (we're in our mid-50's, we were fortunate) so employment figures don't impact us. but i don't envy people who are raising kids in these times. my daughter has decided not to have children....what does the future hold for young people?

13. Jobs are always trailing
the bleeding has slowed down, a critical stage before positive numbers. Look for mid 2010 for that.

This is kind of BASIC econ 101 and I have no idea why this is such a hard concept for people to get. Companies do NOT hire as the leading edge of a recovery... never have, never will.
