Sarah Palin is NO Ronald Reagan
Edited on Fri Nov-27-09 03:31 PM by 27inCali
People keep bringing up how Raygun wasn't taken seriously early on but was triumphant in the end as some kind of warning about Sarah Palin. But let's straighten this out. For as much as Raygun's policies sucked, he was a daft politician, Sarah is not.

1. Raygun was an actor, by the time he was running for president, he had years of experience reading lines with emotion and eloquence. Even if he wasn't a very good actor in his day, he was really good at delivering a powerful line at the right moment ("there you go again..." "tear down this wall" etc.).

Sarah was never an actor, never praticed devilvering lines and it shows every time she speaks.

2. Raygun was the gov. of CA before running, meaning he had already been at the helm on one of the biggest economies in the world, and the most populous state in the nation.

Sarah couldn't cut being gov. of Alaska, what are there like 3 people living there?

3. Raygun was always generally liked by his party establishment and rank and file Repugs.

Sarah is hated by the party establishment and supported by a small fraction of conservatives that don't even consider themselves Republicans anymore.

4. Raygun was smart enought to project a relatively moderate image of himself when he was running for office.

Sarah is a wingnut and wears it on here sleeve like a badge of courage.

Sarah Palin is like Rudi Ghouliani: lots of name recognition which wins them shallow support in the polling, but they just are not and never will be Presidential even in the eyes of a lot of people who technically agree with their policies.

my prediction is that she will run, that it will be apparent after about 3-5 primaries that she has zero chance to win but will obstinately hang in there spouting her crazy shit and turning moderate voters off. In other words, Sarah is a good thing for us, let's not get confused. Right now I would worry about Huckabee. He does a good job of painting himself as a moderate to moderates and still slips in the secret code language to the fundie base and he is easily the most human and likeable of all the Repug hopefulls. He is the one we should be worrying about right now.

2. The MSM adores her
and she has a very loud group of supporters. Sadly, that's enough to be a threat to win the presidency in this day and age. Worked for GWB.

7. I think we'll see that addlepated media whore run third party in 2012
She and Bachmann are whipping up support for a Tea Party Convention in February, don't know the location. My guess is that will form the basis for a party composed of all the angriest, stupidest and craziest people in the country.

They'll probably get more votes than Perot did, but they'll fare as well overall.

Best of all, the Republicans could be rid of them and we could be rid of the Republicans in our own party.
