Christ is reason for season, holiday(Columbus Dispatch, November 27, 2009)I am writing to all who seem to be concerned about using
Happy Holidays, and not
Merry Christmas, to be politically correct. One is made to feel ashamed;
in America it is now wrong to call oneself a Christian or to say anything relating to Christ.I am a Vietnam War veteran and fought for all our rights to express ourselves in the way we believe without having to cater to anyone's political correctness. I understand there are those who do not believe in Christ and who have other religions or no religion. However,
Christmas was made a national holiday for the purpose of celebrating Christ's birth, as we were a Christian nation. I am not sure what the liberals want to call this nation now, but they need to read the U.S. Constitution to understand how our Founding Fathers set up our precious country.My point is that those who object to the Christian observance of Christ's birthday do not have any problem taking the day off of work and accepting the pay. If this holiday were truly so objectionable to non-Christians, they would not take the day off.
They should show tolerance to those of us who still practice Christianity and allow us to celebrate our holiday. Likewise, we should show tolerance to their religions or their decision to not subscribe to a religion.
Anyone who calls himself a Christian should stand up and say, "Merry Christmas," and object to any employer or individual who attempts to take that freedom away. Let's keep Christ in Christmas, as it was meant to be.
Without the Christ in Christmas, why would we have the national holiday?

My goodness, what an idiotic letter. Here's a guy railing about American Christians being cruelly persecuted by people saying "Happy holidays" to them! This at a time when people around the world actually
are being cruelly persecuted by governments run by people just like Ron.
Here's a Vietnam vet who risked his life in war but is now consumed with the trivial matter of whether people say "Happy holidays" (like evil liberals) or "Merry Christmas" (like good conservatives). What a silly, meaningless non-cause to publicly associate one's self with. And Ron, doesn't your Christ tell you to turn the other cheek? (Even after receiving a dastardly insult like "Happy holidays"!)
I would be curious where Ron gets the goofy idea that "in America it is now wrong to call oneself a Christian". Horsehockey! Has any liberal ever said this? Or just Glenn Beck and the blowhards on Fox "News", trying to drum up year-end ratings by rousing rabble like Ron?
Oh, and Ron? America was never "set up" as a "Christian nation". Perhaps
you should read the Constitution sometime.
