Maybe next year huh? Maybe after the pro-corporate health insurance bill is passed huh? Maybe after 10 million more people lose their jobs and homes huh? Oh well, at least we can be thankful for a genocide against native Americans and look forward to people being trampled tomorrow for cheap and poisonous crap made in China.

Sounds about the same. Maybe you could list all the slogans you've memorized for slaps in the face of reality.

17. The numbers that are leaving this country are truly surprising.
Many people have plain given up on democracy in America with good reason.

24. Record Numbers of Americans Living Abroad
Expatriate Americans now number around 4 million and yet the exodus does not seem to be slowing down; and according to some who have already left their homeland, the numbers will continue to rise. But what is it that is leading more Americans than ever to turn their back on the US and establish a new life overseas?

The rate at which American citizens are leaving the US has risen sharply over the past five years to reach record numbers today.

15. I think that similar thoughts have crossed the minds of many people of conscience trying to get .
through these difficult times. I know it has crossed mine. Most of the people I know are on some kind of anti-depressant to cope.

20. I rec'd this thread...
...but there's still too much denial here. The U.S. is certainly at the top of the list of rogue states, as far as I'm concerned. The populace is too dim, self-centered, and infantile to realize what's going on in the rest of the world. I lived in Europe for 22 years and witnessed first hand some of the detrimental effects of U.S. policy in action. In a civilized nation, one would not be able to hear one's own thoughts over the din of outrage caused by our war-mongering, torturing, and scorched-earth capitalist policies, but here we're fine with that as long as we can watch "Dancing with the Stars" and pick up a Big Mac at 2 a.m.

And it sickens me to see the conscientious few on DU be swarmed by the irrational babbling hordes of change, because they have the temerity to point out that on many issues of importance, President Obama is wearing the same suit with a different colour. To be sure, he's definitely not as bad as Bush (not by a long shot) and McPalin would have ushered in the Apocalypse by now, but, really, is that the best we can do? Obama said to make him do it. I'll take him up on his word and I'm not going to let anyone tell me to shut my mouth. Some here may be fine with continuing renditions, giveaways to the finance sector at the expense of the working class, a health care system that would be an embarrassment in any other industrialized nation, a continuing war in the Graveyard of Empires, or the fact that fucking blood-thirsty war criminals are still allowed to inhale the air of freedom, but I am not. I voted for Obama not because I bought the Hopenchange, but because a McPalin administration would have put the crazies in the driver's seat. The Democratic Party has passed up a historic moment to put the U.S. back on the ethical track for the betterment of all citizens, and our POTUS is too feckless to come to work and wield the big stick. I doubt he'll lose in 2012, but only because the GOP will not be finished with their internecine war. However, 2010 could change the face of Congress for the worst, and I don't think it's unreasonable to warn of that possibility.

In the end, we get what we deserve. Luckily, I still have other options elsewhere in the world, but I cannot say the same for my family, or anyone else I care about (including all of you here).

29. It's never time to give up.
Changing labels still leaves us with the same problems to solve.

We're not truly capitalist, but then we're certainly not truly socialist, either.

We are still trying to do things that have never been done on this scale.

Things don't always scale up, so readily.

One thing I'm sure of, witch hunts and inquisitions don't solve anything.
