Emissions cuts no shock to Corp. America
WASHINGTON, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Corporate America has been thinking about how to comply with a U.S. commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for years, executives and analysts say.
So business leaders weren't surprised when the White House said Wednesday U.S. President Barack Obama would tell a U.N.-sponsored climate-change summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, next month the United States intended to cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 17 percent below 2005 levels by 2020 and by 83 percent by 2050, The New York Times reported.
"Industry needs certainty, and without a very strong role played by the administration, they are not likely to get it," Eileen Claussen, president of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, told the newspaper.
"Real leadership from the White House is the only way to get a bill through the Senate, and a bill is how we will get certainty," she said.
Major corporations, including General Electric Co., Ford Motor Co. and PepsiCo Inc., are working with environmental groups at the United States Climate Action Partnership to find ways to cut emissions throughout the economy.

They were not going to do it themselves as they were more interested in profit and making shareholders happy and screw the rest of us.
I get profit, I get them wanting to make some. But there is such a thing as balance (which is why I wince when people call me a libertarian because I am against some regulations, personally I believe in a healthy balance).
You want to make more money? Fine by me. But don't do it at the expense of the rest of us and then complain when we want our cut as well - investing does not just mean putting cash into a company, it can mean allowing companies to use X resources/etc - and in that sense we are all investors.
A government, and corporations, by the people, for the people, and yes - even for investors.
You invest more, you get more, sure. But we ALL invest something into some ventures as we all share resources and live on the same planet.
Working together often gets called 'socialism', I prefer to call it common sense. When you cut out the all for the few we all lose.
Once more, you invest more you get more and I will go with that - but we ALL invest something and SHOULD get something in return.
