U.S. Will Be Out Of Afghanistan By 2017: White House
Edited on Thu Nov-26-09 02:27 PM by Bluebear
Just around the corner.

===

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States will not be in Afghanistan eight years from now, the White House said on Wednesday, as President Barack Obama prepared to explain to Americans next week why he is expanding the war effort.

2. Not good enough.
If this is true it is one policy that I won't support Obama on.

We're not even out of Iraq, yet.

Sadly, that would be my prediction if he escalates this war.

9. We will have troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for more than eight years.
It may be down to 20,000 in each country. We have troops in Germany, Japan, Korea so it will not be any different many years from now. It will not make any difference whether the president is a Republican or a Democrat.

I wonder what word parsing he will use to justify the 50,000 "Non-Combat" military personnel like in Iraq.

13. Are they on drugs?
I'm sorry but that timetable will not be acceptable to the American people. We don't agree on much in this country but I believe most of us concur that this is a clusterfuck that should be aborted yesterday. It's hard for me to believe that "the WHite House" would release a statement like this. Surely they aren't that fucking obtuse?

Only an entire presidency spent waging imperial war, and that's if everything works out.

Hmmm, wonder what that's gonna cost us?

27. If you saw Bill Moyers last Friday night
you saw a cautionary tale that President Obama has failed to heed.

LBJ had an election breathing down his neck and Goldwater accusing him of being weak on national defense. Obama has no such pressure on him, and still he chooses to escalate!

God, I pray that he knows what he is doing, but I fear that this is Vietnam, Part Deux.

"We are in year nine of our efforts in Afghanistan. We are not going to be there another eight or nine years," Gibbs told reporters. "Our time there will be limited and that is important for people to understand," he (Gibbs) said.

To clarify, had the title read "U.S. Will Be Out Of Afghanistan By 2099: White House" the title would be just as accurate and as inflammatory.

It is nice to see how many people trust the media when it is convenient.

I'll wait to hear what Obama has to say.
