Some Thanksgiving day perspective---

As we greet friends and family and sit down to what is truly a "feast", let's consider that, right now, 10% of our countrymen are relying on food stamps and roughly one out of every six people in our workforce is unemployed. Countless thousands of families are spending their first Thanksgiving "after foreclosure".

I'll be reminding those at my Thanksgiving table of these hard realities before we count our blessings.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I BELIEVE that next year will be better.

2. I had to go to Wally's yesterday to refill the one cheap scrip

that only they give me a break on and I had to pass the food to do it.

I noticed they were down to the bottoms of the bins of pinto beans and rice, something that every food seller in town sells in bulk.

This was always a poor neighborhood, but I've never seen that before.

Times are tough. Beans and rice are what sustained me when I was poor.
