Unavoidable Human Catastrophy: the looming water shortage
Water Crisis

Since the report on the looming water shortage was undertaken in corporate interests, it should not be surprising that it is framed in it's impact on economics first, with the secondary emphasis placed on humans.

snip

At a later news conference, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, the chairman of Nestle helpfully questioned whether the idea of water as a "human right" is useful way to frame the conversation. He seems to think that humans have a right to "about 25 liters a day".

Maybe we can recommend T Boone Pickens to their board of directors. He can show them how to set up "wind farms" so that he can scam up all the water rights. http://seekingalpha.com/article/24410-t-boone-pickens-invests-in-water-should-you

2. Bow to your corporate masters.
But don't drink their water. The need to bottle it and sell it to you first.

16. I'd like to see them try...
They'd have to go after a lot of my neighbors as well.

In any case, the guy who owns that company had to fight a nasty fight with the town to get the permits for the increased truck traffic. Some of the people on the selectboard would also be affected by any corporate monkeybusiness, and one thing ya don't want to do is piss off a bunch of people living in a teensy little rural town.

3. We're going to have a major water shortage in this country, and soon
It will either be a natural thing, or worse yet, a corporate creation. One reason why I'm digging out a large cistern and building a rainwater collection system. There are times when I've got to water my orchard, and I won't be controlled by some corporation that controls the water.

5. My question has been, for several years:
Why are we still using perfectly good drinking water to shit in?

When will it be required that grey water be reused in things like toilets and flower beds?

6. I don't know, I've never figured that one out
Better yet, why do a number of cities put their water treatment outflow pipe upstream from their fresh water intake pipe?

12. Why use water in toilets at all? Composting/electric toilets have
been available for years -- why not mandate them somehow, or give them away, or give huge tax incentives?

And why the heck can't we put people to work building desalinization plants all along our coastlines? Is anyone out there looking into the future farther than 10 minutes?

13. Many county building codes won't allow composting toilets.
We've looked into it. You could make a case for the toilets, but it won't work for every county mostly because some people can't fathom pooping in dirt.... go figure.

The new International Building Code does allow for re-directing greywater, but you have to get permits and inspections to reroute the pipes.

14. Oh, I know about the codes. My point is why are they not forcibly
changed with regard to approved composting/electric toilets? That plus tax credits, free toilets, etc., would get us down the road toward not flushing shit with drinking water.

4. Water Scam. It's about putting all public resources in private hands.
Like electricity. And education.

11. + 7 billion. If we wanted to, we could de-salinate enough seawater for everybody.
The technology exists. Of course, that costs money and we don't want to burden the rich, who give us so much.

7. A great documentary to watch: Blue Gold World Water Wars
http://www.bluegold-worldwaterwars.com/

I watched it on NetFlix streaming videos. Here is a YouTube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ikb4WG8UJRw

How many of us know about how in our own municipalities we get our water and how our sewage is treated? Here is another excellent documentary that I saw this past week on my PBS station: "Liquid Assets, the Story of Our Infrastructure"
http://liquidassets.psu.edu/ I found it to be fascinating and realized that I don't really know about my own city's water.

8. Maybe they should buy up all the wind rights.
That way only the corporation could have wind power through mega windmills. Corporations could charge anyone who puts up a windmill for the use of the wind, just like they charged people in South America for collecting their own rain water because only the corporation had the right to the water.

Corporations could also charge people for light breezes on hot days. If people enjoy the breeze, they are charged for the use of the wind.

It's a wind wind for corporations.

Maybe they should buy up all the solar rights, they could charge farmers for growing vegetables, or anything green. The possibilities are endless when you are a crook.

10. In the US east of 100 degrees longitude there is no particular problem
In the west, the coast north of Santa Cruz is OK, as are areas with access to mountain snow pack.

Southern CA, NV, AZ, NM, West Texas are pretty much SOL.
