Toyota to recall 110,000 Tundra trucks over rust

By KEN THOMAS
Associated Press
2009-11-25 04:40 AM

The U.s. government says Toyota will recall 110,000 Tundra trucks from the 2000-2003 model years to address excessive rust on the vehicle's frame.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is alerting owners of the Tundras to remove spare tires mounted underneath the vehicle. Excessive corrosion due to road salt could lead to part of the vehicle's frame failing and the spare tire falling onto the roadway, creating a hazard for other vehicles.

1. They ought to recall a bunch of Toyotas for smoking engines, too.
Most of the ones I see that are more than a couple of years old smoke on acceleration. They all couldn't have been driven hard and/or abused, which makes me think valve stem seals or some other component is faulty. Not friendly to the environment at all...

3. That's strange
Dallas County is an "emissions" County and requires an emissions test in addition to the normal annual State Inspection.

Haven't seen a less than 10 year Toyota fail an emissions test yet. (Except for a Corolla that the owner put diesel in...)

Toyota guarantees the emissions components for much longer than the powertrain: 8 years/80,000 miles.

2. How to destroy a brand real quick.
What's their stock going to be worth tomorrow?

And how much do I want records of every executive's stock transactions for the last six months.

4. I don't know how they get away with calling those "trucks".
The rust I can understand.
