Progressives want change. Real change. Change they wanted to believe in. Never before in my lifetime I have felt such a need, a longing, for change. When that desire remains unfulfilled, it's logical people get frustrated.
But this post isn't about Obama and the degree of change he brought.
It's just to point out that the potential for real change has never been bigger since the sixties. Regardless of political viewpoint, most people in my generation agree that things did NOT get better for us. And the recent crisis has poured a lot of oil on the fire. The anger and the desire is there. It's just not channeled, focused. It shows itself in the snowballing anti-globalism movement (is there a better word without the anti? here we call it Andersglobalisme - so different, not anti)
So, regardless of White House occupants, representatives and the theater that is modern politics, everybody should realize now is a great time to DO something. I do understand people that have been around the block lose faith. Us young ones should show them we too have got what it takes.
Being affiliated with a party and supporting it isn't, by far, the only change you can be.
Take some distance, don't forget the big picture and keep up the good fight. We are the ones consenting to be governed. We are the consumers everybody depends upon. I'm gonna do my small part in waking people up - via indymedia. The neoliberal economics are totally busted. If ever there was a time for Democratic Socialism it is NOW.
