"Spot" and "Fido" Part of Holidays Too

SACRAMENTO, CA - Two Sacramento pet agencies want to put out reminders about two programs they offer for the welfare of pets.

Sacramento's City Animal Shelter at 2127 Front Street launched a pet food bank this week. Titanic's Pantry (named after a resident kitty at the shelter) offers pet food and supplies free of charge for local pets.

The program relies on donations to keep going. Those interested in helping out can visit the shelter during business hours, Tuesdays - Fridays, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving Day) and Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Sacramento SPCA

The Sacramento SPCA hopes to find new homes for 600 dogs, cats and small animals by the end of the year with its "Home for the Holidays" campaign.

To encourage pet adoptions, the SPCA is first offering a Black Friday special (Nov. 27 only) of 75 percent off the adoption fee for any animal with a black marking (including noses). The shelter, located at 6201 Florin-Perkins Road, will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. There will also be discounts in the SPCA retail store.

1. Great post. On a more modest scale, pets get lost in the holiday hoopla.
Remember to check water bowls, open doors and odd holiday stuff left within reach. :hi:

2. Agreed! My vet said that the day after Thanksgiving is his busiest day of the year...
National Day of Canine Gastrointestinal Upset and Pancreatitis is Nearly Upon us!
Dr. Eric Barchas, DVM

The end of human dinner time tomorrow marks the start of a very dangerous period for the dogs of America.

People, exhausted and bloated, will retire to sofas and armchairs across the country. Dogs will devour unattended turkey carcasses, ransack garbage cans (compost bins in northern California), gobble up giblets, stuff themselves with stuffing, lap up gravy, pilfer pumpkin pie and help themselves to whatever leftovers they can get their paws on.

Dogs that engage in these sorts of activities aren’t bad dogs. They are simply doing what dogs do.
