Dog Recovering After Eating 130 Nails
Dog Recovering After Eating 130 Nails
Owner Thankful Basset Hound Is Alive

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ashley Saks couldn't believe what she saw when the veterinarian brought her the X-rays. Her 2-year-old Basset Hound Roxy had ingested more than 100 nails.

“I counted about 130, but I don't know how many she threw up before she was taken, so it could've been more,” Saks said.

The unbelievable X-rays showed a clump of about 100 or so nails stuck at the base of Roxy's stomach, WJXT-TV reported. At that point, there were already a few stragglers that made its way through her intestines.

“They put her to sleep, stuck something down her throat, and pulled them out a few at a time,” said Saks. “Because it was such a big bulk, they couldn't just pull them out, it took over an hour to do that.”

I had a dog, Max, who ate a CD once and chewed through a chord that was plugged in. He would yelp, then chew more, then yelp, etc until I figured out what he was doing under the table.

1. He yelped and you didn't check asap? Wow. I check on them if
I even think the sound of something they're doing isn't quite right. I couldn't imagine ignoring a yelp till after a dog had shocked itself numerous times.

That being said, I do know a family who lost a christmas kitty shortly after christmas due to being gone when it decided to chew the cord for the christmas lights. It looked like a one time zap, not a recurring zap, but how could one tell for sure?

6. Maybe he thought it was his kicking him that was causing the yelping.

7. Riley was under there with him, they often play fought and he would yelp
Once riley came out from under there and was looking funny at max and he yelped I figured it was not riley causing it.

I miss those two dogs, they were a trip. Riley used to love to watch cartoons.

2. Some sort of deficiency?
We have an aluminum ladder in the back of our one wooded acre and I recently discovered the squirrels were eating it, literally.

3. now that is a squirrel that you wouldn't want to mess with because if they can chew
aluminum, hell what would they do to your leg.

4. I saw him
kinda laying across the ladder, I walked up and he ran off and I noticed that he had made a pretty good dent in the aluminum at the end of the ladder. I wouldn't want to be bit by one of those critters but they are real skiddish around humans although our small plot of paradise is very wild animal friendly.

10. Brillo pad
My Springer ate a soap filled Brillo pad and my metal watch band. The xray showed the Brillo pad exiting the stomach, the watch band showed up in the back yard when she pooped. She also pooped out the Brillo pad. And she never got sick.

14. The dog must be iron deficient
She must not have been taught never to chew her nails.
