Bill Kristol: No trial, just put Hasan to death
Law enforcement officials announced yesterday that Maj. Nidal M. Hasan has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder in the brutal attacks at Fort Hood Army base. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said that “the number one issue, I think right now, is that Major Hasan be brought to justice.”

Last night on Fox News, Bill Kristol called Napolitano’s comment “stupid” and stated outright that there should be no trial:

KRISTOL: I was very struck also by Janet Napolitano’s comment, I hadn’t read it before to see her say that, that the number one priority is to bring him to justice is such a knee-jerk comment and such a stupid comment. He’s going to be brought to justice. He is not going to be innocent of murder. There are a lot of eyewitnesses to that. They should just go ahead and convict him and put him to death.

The right to a trial is just an inconvenient middleman to guys like Kristol.

I wonder how many other things there are that he views as a burden...

Investigations?
The rest of the Bill of Rights?
Elections?
The Constitution?

1. Kristol is amazingly intelligent, yet the crap that comes out of his mouth is stunning.

10. No, he's not intelligent
You can't count as intelligent if you stopped thinking years ago. Every seemingly original thought Kristal has is simply cribbed from lessons he learned from his father. He's a shadow of a shadow.

2. Lets charge Kristol with treason for his part in the propaganda during the bu$h regime
Then we can execute him with not trial or due process.

What would he think then?

They just don't get it, this is America and we have a little thing called due process.

:wtf:

3. Seems to me that this trial, military or civilian, should be a public...
affair available on television worldwide. This man is not a terrorist, he is merely a religious zealot.

21. not forgotten, deliberately repudiated
they have always admired brutal authoritarian dictators, as long as the dictator supported their military and commercial goals.

Civil liberties are just a hindrance to their exercise of power.

5. Good points
I'm always amazed, although by now I shouldn't be, that those who shout loudest things like "They hate us for our freedoms!" are so willing to give those freedoms away.

6. Lynch mobs never wanted for participants and appreciative crowds
and they got the wrong guy in a shockingly large number of cases and they found out later that the person who accused him in another number of cases had been lying to settle an old score. They still turned out for the next one, though.

Kristol is just a one man lynch mob who is trying to get his buddies to participate. Sadly, they always will.

This is why we need to re establish the rule of law in this country. It's the only thing that set us apart from more "primitive" countries.

8. And round up all suspected RW terorrists too.
Then put them in camps. Then make them listen to Sarah Palin speeches on a loop.

Talking crap is fun. I can see the attraction of being a neocon stooge.

11. I guess I'm stupid because I don't no the difference between
"be brought to justice" and "go ahead and convict him"

Kristol seems really angry about some hair splitting difference that appears to exist only in his mind.

18. That's so 1214....
.NO Freeman shall be taken or imprisoned, or be disseised of his Freehold, or Liberties, or free Customs, or be outlawed, or exiled, or any other wise destroyed; nor will We not pass upon him, nor condemn him, but by lawful judgment of his Peers, or by the Law of the land. We will sell to no man, we will not deny or defer to any man either Justice or Right.'

19. A Man for All Seasons (Robert Bolt)
Wife: Arrest him!

More: For what?

Wife: He's dangerous!

Roper: For all we know he's a spy!

Daughter: Father, that man's bad!

More: There's no law against that!

Roper: There is, God's law!

More: Then let God arrest him!

Wife: While you talk he's gone!

More: And go he should, if he were the Devil himself, until he broke the law!

Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!

More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?

Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!

More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down -- and you're just the man to do it! -- do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!

20. Since Kristol was once the alleged chairman of PNAC
I would argue that he killed a lot more people than Nidal Hasan did. And his murderous intentions were written out ahead of time, so there's no question of premeditation.

So if Hasan should be executed, then Kristol and all the other PNAC'ers should be right next to him.

22. If they can privately convict and summarily execute
anyone, they can do the same to you. They are simply stating their desired governance structure.

The neocons could use these proper public trials in New York to show that proper public trials are inappropriate for this new breed of criminal called 'terrorist.' OTOH, if we don't have public trials we are already where the neocons want us to be.

They water boarded a man over 100 times. I guarantee he has brain damage, he will plead guilty and he wants to give a speech. If I were them I'd be all over this like white on rice. I'd want everyone to know about it and see it when it happens. Of course, I'd be complaining about it now, tell folks it makes them unsafe. I'd definitely pick up Maj. Hasan into the mix, because he's current - truth is what you say it is. They have TV after all. After the NY trials I'd set up a terrific campaign to sell my private prosecution and summary execution solution to terror - in preparation for 2012 if nothing else.

People only submit to authority when they feel that authority protects them from something worse.

Fear = Oppression.

By definition a terrorist is anyone who causes fear in those who oppose him, while acting in support of a political or social agenda. By that definition Maj. Hasan IS a terrorist, by all accounts. Words and thoughts can be considered terrorism, and cause for prosecution and execution of any individual - as long as they go against the agenda and ideology of the institution that makes the laws.

23. The logic of the lynch mob
So mistrustful of the Constitution that they would burn it before reading, all the while squawking "national security" and protesting how much they love the country, as they subvert everything that makes America America.
