Get Your War On: Obama to give primetime speech on the way forward in Afghanistan this Tuesday
One can hope he'll explain why we should increase military spending at a time when essential services are being cut around the country. Interesting he's choosing to give the speech at West Point instead of a public school that's going to have to lay off teachers and increase class size.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 25, 2009 (Reuters) — U.S. President Barack Obama will address Americans on the way forward in Afghanistan on December 1 at 8 p.m., White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said on Wednesday.

Gibbs said Obama would unveil his long-awaited Afghanistan strategy from West Point military academy.

4. Obama always said he was going to "win" this war
The right wing better be happy. Can't wait to start hearing them complain about it.

This is something we all knew we had to live with when we voted for Obama.

Iraq is going away, and that's the good thing. That will save a lot of money.

7. Our vote for Obama was a vote to get out of Iraq, not a vote to start a war
in Afghanistan. Everyone is war weary.

Too bad Obama is not paying attention to the public, and to the Treasury. We are broke and we have no heart for this war.

13. Start?
that's not really fair. Blivet started it. And some high percentage of Americans agreed at the time. I wasn't one of them at the time, but I'm almost never in favor of any war. But it seemed we had to take it out on someone militarily.

12. Please define the word "win"
I'm not trying to be confrontational, I want to understand what we mean by "win."

Personally, I feel the only way we "win" in Afghanistan is to kill more than half their population. For every insurgent we kill 10 more will pop up until there's nothing left but broken women and old men... I'd like to understand what others mean when they say 'winning this war' - we already won, and put Krooked Karzai on the throne.

16. I don't know either, and I agree with you about the 10 new people who
hate us because we killed one of their number and it had nothing to do with them that Al Qaeda attacked. This is true of Iraq, too.

I think Obama is probably catering to the will of the people here. Even DUers might have supported the attack Bush started, because it was right after 911 and gee, we had to attack somebody in "self-defense" because we seem to be a warlike nation.

8. When Obama tells us the reasons we need to continue the war
it will be easy to imagine Bush saying the exact same words.

it shouldn't be any surprise to anyone who voted for and supported him. This is part of the change he was offering and he didn't stutter when he said it.
