A suggestion for long-time DUers.
You may not know it but many people here at DU care about you and consider you a friend, even though it is "just" a discussion board. It would be good if you could give your wife, friend, or significant other your password so they could inform your friends if anything were to happen to you. We care about you. Just a suggestion.

2. Good suggestion, thanks.
I have just one close friend who also posts here, and I'm sure she would inform the group.

But especially for anyone who does NOT have such a personal friend, it would be most kind to pass on login info to a friend or family member.

It's a terrible thought, but shit does happen.

19. I have many DU friends,
but none of them live anywhere near me even though I've met them in real life. I'd guess the majority of DUers don't know other DUers in the real world, since so many come to the site because it's the only place they can be their liberal/progressive selves while surrounded by conservatives at work or in their communities or families.

5. True.
Recently, my older son posted some information about my having surgery. The response here not only did me good, but it made my wife and children feel good, as well.

7. Good idea ... but in my case

most of my family (the ones aren't apolitical) lean to the right. If they really wanted to get out a message I'd just let them create their own ID just for the occasion.

But like I say, it's a good idea overall.

I mean about me.

In fact, even though I mainly post on the General Forum, I have posted in others, and have largely been ignored by the regulars. I'm not going to name the forums, but yeah. That's how I feel. Who would really care?

"Cirque du So-What" is funny and clever. I admire clever and funny people.

I feel similar however. I doubt many inquiries would be raised should I not post for an extended period.

Ditto, question everything; I may disagree with some of your positions as well, but I rarely, if ever feel you are anything but sincere and forthright.

doesn't know or care about DU.

There are a couple of DUers who would hear about it if something happened to me.

Eventually.

32. Thank you for the thought.
A friend of mine wrote many years ago that she didn't want flowers at her funeral... she wanted them during her life. That prompted me to remember to give her flowers from time to time.

If we would receive those kind thoughts here on DU *before* "anything were to happen" to us, it would mean a whole lot more.

38. I'd HOPE kevsand would know to post something here.
It might be a "Ding Dong the witch is gone" thread in the Lounge, but I do think he'd let you all know.

:eyes:

In truth, I think this is a wonderful idea and something we all should consider. It might sound odd to some of you, but I had no real recognition of how much impact an online board really has until I got active on a local board. There are maybe 20 to 30 regular posters on there under a recognizable personae, however the actual readership is HUGE. I post there under my own name and I never cease to be amazed at the number of people that offer comment about something or other they saw me saying on that board. A lot of times they tell me they are afraid to post but love to read. I suspect DU is exactly the same on a larger scale.

YMMV, but I DO care what happens to DUers.

40. Oh, I agree...
I have several friends who would let all of you know if something happened to me...

And some family too.

It is NOT *just* a discussion board!

This place has changed my life, and revealed much to me about myself that I had no idea about...

I write poetry now, and that was because of DU and the people I met here.

I love this place!
