Just heard it announced on WPLJ in NY. Gap will be open, ToysRUs too.

Give thanks to the almighty dollar.

1. Wow - another 48 hours for me to NOT shop at WalMart!
It has been years since I set foot in one and that was only because it was the only place I could find that I knew would have a bathroom - and I really had to pee.

2. They'll claim it's to prevent stampedes like on Long Island last year.
Off course it has nothing to do with $$$$:sarcasm:

4. To be fair, it's the madness of the consumers
that drive this policy (actually the threat of lawsuits because of the actions of those mad consumers).

Open 24 hours prevents the "doors open at 6am" crowd crush on "Black Friday".

6. Um. . . I hate to tell you this, but

WM is always open 24/7, even in my little burg where they roll the sidewalks in after dark. I think they decided it was cheaper to pay a few employees to work the graveyard shift than to worry about security after hours.

The rest might qualify as news, though. Maybe you should consider promoting the moratorium on Black Friday to send Corporate America a message. (I think it would have had a lot more impact if they hadn't waited until today to promote it, so I'm not expecting they'll have much impact. . .)

ETA the original source for better info. They're actually calling for a 24-hour moratorium on everything--electricity, TV, internet, you name it. "Participate by not participating!"

Afraid I'll fail on the "no computer" part, but the "no shopping" will be easy.

9. I cannot remember any stores other than food stores being open Thanksgiving day
in my neck of the woods in my lifetime. This is a disturbing trend.

18. IIRC, K-mart was the first to do this,
When Wally World was shut tight.

10. Walmart cares nothing about employees--it's all about profits.

And people who go shopping on Thanksgiving day are nuts too.

11. They Better Be Paying Workers Time & A Half...
For nearly 20 years, I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Someone has to...and I was still able to squeeze in time to be with my family. For some, the holidays are a depressing season and they'd rather work...especially those who consider their work their family.

Be assured I will not be going near any mall or shopping center on Friday. My bets are wait two weeks and the prices will be marked way down.

12. Anymore, Thanksgiving has been degraded to the eve of Christmas shopping season.
Too many people don't look at the day to reunite with family and friends. It's now the day you camp out in freezing weather for hours just so you can be among the first to get your hands on some superficial, materialistic product that the store intentionally has in short supply so they can watch people act like dumb animals attempting to get their hands on these products.

You knew it would be a matter of time when the retailers would be open on Thanksgiving Day just to bastardize the holiday even more.

Why am I not surprised that Wally World is one of the retailers leading the way?

Keep those conservative family values coming!

15. Perhaps the person who shops tomorrow, will not be in the store
to get trampled to death on Friday.

17. Many part-timers get no holiday pay
And will be happy to get the hours. Leftover turkey is a lot better than a short check, when you're day to day.
