we really need another massive anti-war rally
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 11:02 PM by G_j
the message is the same for all leaders who wage war.
It's won't change policy for the time being, but
the symbolism of a large demo would be significant.
Peace is peace is peace. The song remains the same.

3. Hey, go for it.
Maybe you can pick up some teabaggers along the way, and you can all revolutionize together.

19. disparate groups can use the same route to arrive at different destinations.
if you don't think that fundamental and systemic change is going to be required, that's your prerogative.

if you do, however, and you think that it can be achieved without a massive revolt...

that's also your prerogative.

6. The Neocons are using that word a lot lately, too.
I see things getting much worse in this country before they get better.

21. change can be a bitch.
especially when it involves wresting the 'power' from the clutches of it's holders.

the neocons may recognize the need- but the man behind the curtain can usually hornswaggle them about who's actually in control...

7. sure, but, that's just about as likely as the rapture..
a revolution in consciousness would be what is needed, but it doesn't seem to be going in that direction.

17. "a revolution in consciousness"...
would pretty much by definition require a certain level of consciousness among the electorate as a whole to begin with. we've barely got 50% that fall into that category on a good day.

the bigger the mess gets, the bigger the clean-up job that's going to be needed.

13. nothing wrong with showing a decent respect for the opinions of mankind
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 11:01 PM by kenny blankenship
Sometimes decency just requires it - an outward token that we have been at fault and we know it. Sometimes it's the least we can do.

23. You don't need a massive rally to do that.
Go get a sign and a soapbox (or other appropriate box) and stand at a busy intersection.

10. because all Presidents, and Congress ppl. who wage agressive war should be adressed equally.
is there a reason why Obama should be excluded?

hunky dory.

12. You can protest by yourself.
Put a peace sign on a sign, and stand by the side of the road.

Here in Chicago, we will have protests next week on the day after Obama's announcement, and then again on Saturday. It will be a good size protest. But until then, I am going to stand on a busy corner every day during rush hour with a peace sign. I dno't have to wait on someone to organize a protest to protest.

24. this time around...
I stood up for ANSWER in the past, because they got permits and got things done.
However, I really am looking for a fresh new start, something more singularly focused, and less dogmatic/ more grass roots.

20. I'm ready for some action, just not with ANSWER
I was part of many, many, many anti-war protests during Bush's 8 years, a lot of them ANSWER-sponsored.

I respect that they were the only ones organizing protests for a while right after 9/11, but good lord I don't want to endure another one of their rigidly ideological rantfests ever again.

22. no, I defended them also,
and I hope they have success, however, we need something like the Vietnam moratorium march, and specifically focused on the US wars, in particular, escalation in Afghanistan. I hope something else besides ANSWER can emerge.
