Poll question: Do you use the Motorola Droid, HTC Hero or HTC Eris?
Looking for some feedback. I am considering my first 'smartphone'. I am certain I want the Google OS, and I am leaning heavily toward the Motorola Droid.

2. The HTC HERO is simply the best phone I have ever owned. Period.
The Motorola is fine no doubt and the Samsung "Moment" another "Droid" phone is said to be a good phone as well.
I like my Hero.
It's fast and easy to use and intuitive and just hefty enough to satisfy a ham fisted dude like me.

These phones ROCK.

3. Got a Droid yesterday for my wife.
It's a good phone and there are some very useful apps on the Android Marketplace.

The only issue I have with it is that "Visual Voicemail" (where voicemails appear like emails and you can select the ones you want to listen to) is a $2.99 per month extra, that you only find out about after you've got the phone (you also have to download the app to make it work).

The $3.00 isn't that bad in itself, but the VVM service doesn't work when you have WiFi connected (the phone falls back to normal VM, where you have to dial-in to review your messages). Having two different methods of accessing voicemail, depending if you're hooked up to WiFi or not seems very lame. Frankly, I'd give the service a miss until Verizon sorts it out.

Other than that, the Droid looks good. It's well made, the "real keyboard" works well (although some reviews say it lacks feel), apps load quickly and integration with GMail, Google Contacts and Calendar is very good. As the number of apps in the Marketplace grows, the phone will gain functionality, but I found most of what I was looking for anyway.

4. Funny you should ask this now!
I just logged in to DU for the first time with my new HTC Touch Pro 2, and your poll is at the top of the list of topics! Just got it Saturday, and whatever you choose, you're gonna have a blast.

11. I know - it's so difficult to choose. I am leaning Droid mainly for screen size
battery life and Android 2.0 availability. But by Jan. 2.0 should be available on all the Android phones.

I just can't decide!

7. I have an unlocked G1
Not sure what that's called otherwise.

Looooooooove it! If I could afford it, I'd upgrade to the Android.

If you're not wedded to the idea of a gazillion iphone apps, then the Android might be a great idea.

8. I Got A Droid Yesterday
For various reasons, my company would pay for a Droid but not an iPhone.

I've had an iPod Touch for a year, which is an iPhone without the phone, GPS, and camera.

The Droid's nice, but not nearly as polished and elegant as the iTouch/iPhone. It's an excellent phone - very loud and clear.

Don't know about the other Android offerings.

Good luck!
