1. What's Un Black Friday? Wed the 25th?
Never heard of it.

Nobody in my family lives near me, so I always shop online and have it sent to them. haven't been out on BF for years.

2. no
but you brave souls who get up at 2 in the morning to endure that madness are the holiday vanguard.

i have known people who even enjoy this ritual. not me. i'm hoping to have too many glasses of wine on Thanksgiving and to wake up nice and late the net day. 10 at least.

and then i'll hit the treadmill to make up for my pigout the day before.

6. I am certainly not one of those who is there when the door opens, but
if I have the time (or a babysitter this year) and money, then yes, I will brave the crowds. I love shopping anyway. Especially for other people, and now that I have a child, I think it will be even more fun shopping for her.

16. Never - if I'm out of coffee or something, I will go to the grocery,
but we got our last purchases of the week this morning, should not have to buy anything for a while.

I will actually be cooking out Thanksgiving dinner Friday-will mainly eat and watch recorded stuff on TV to miss all the parades.

20. Never gone on Black Friday
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 10:00 PM by TlalocW
For the past ten years or so, all my Xmas shopping has been done on computer on eBay when I could, buying from individuals. I have friends and family who like KU Jayhawks, Dallas Cowboys, Star Wars, Horror Movies, Cats, the Muppets, etc. so it's hard to find stuff for all of them. What they need they can buy themselves, but I like to find little fun things in these categories for them. This year, an Archie McPhee catalog came at the right time so I've decided to make it a weird action figure Christmas. Friends will be getting things like Mr. Bacon versus Monsieur Tofu, Crazy Cat Lady, and Zombie action figures along with weirdly-flavored mints, and a packet of gummy candy that looks like bacon.

Ultimately, I'll probably have to go face the crowds once for my 78-year-old mother, but staying out of the stores keeps me in the Xmas spirit and gives me more time to bake cookies.

24. There once was a lady from Queens,
Who went to the Walmart it seems,
The crowd was so neat, and classy, and sweet
That they trampled her triple starched jeans.

She went down in a flash on that day,
Someone lifted her cash in the fray,
She was stomped she was beat from her head to her feet
That'll teach her to stand in the way.

33. I love paying full price for things
god forbid I would save all year to purchase when there are deals at just about every store. Particularly stores which almost never have sales. I love being owned by the system. I hate getting good deals. I retain my moral purity by hating doing what everyone else does and I get to pay higher prices. It's win, win.

39. When did they start calling it "Black Friday?"
In my teens and early 20s...late '70s and '80s, I often shopped the day after Thanksgiving.

It wasn't as crowded then.

When I noticed the crowds and the hype ramping up, I quit. I'd shop after work in the evenings.

With the advent of internet shopping, I did less and less shopping in stores, reserving local shopping for local, family-owned businesses only.

It's been more than 15 years since I went to a shopping center to shop for xmas. I've paid so little attention that I was surprised to see a commercial on tv for "black friday." I didn't remember ever hearing it referred to that way. (I don't watch much tv, either.)
