Three words I thought this President was willing to say: "We were wrong."
Yeah, damn it---I'm that foolish. I had at least a little hope(remember that word?) that President Obama would be truly bold and announce an expeditious withdrawal of all or nearly all of our troops from Afghanistan.

I'd hoped he would say something like this:

"The whole world supported us when we came to Afghanistan eight years ago and everyone understood our mission. We soon abandoned that mission, however, and, for nearly seven years, we have remained in Afghanistan simply to avoid what some would label a 'retreat'. We are better than that. We will spend no more precious lives to avoid the supposed embarrassment of admitting a mistake.

We were not wrong to enter Afghanistan in pursuit of the cowardly criminals who murdered nearly 3000 innocents on September 11, 2009. But, we were wrong to be diverted from that just and sacred effort to further the imperialistic ambitions of those who knew all of the the pageantry of war, but not the taste of its blood, the smell of its smoke and the sound of its screams.

I am directing our orderly and safe withdrawal from Afghanistan to begin immediately and to be completed as soon as our resources and best efforts will permit. Not too soon will we turn the final page in this chapter of our nation's history."

That George W. Bush was a spineless fool with a shrivelled soul is no longer debatable. For us to risk one more life or spend one more dollar to avoid admitting that is simply inexcusable.

Bring 'em home ASAP. Use PART of the money saved to fund a good public option health care bill. Who loses in that scenario? (W. doesn't count)

1. it is a nice dream... I wish it would happen as I do not see any hope for success in Afghanistan now

it is far too late. The corruption of Karzai is pretty obvious. Do we really need to support another puppet who will very likely become another dictator like Saddam Hussein? After all HE was also "our" puppet at one point. Then again - who trained Osama bin Laden - WE DID. hoo-rah! USAUSAUSAUSA!!!

5. "won't be voting for him again"? Not ready to go there.
I'm disappointed, but I'm not ready to write off this president.

Obama/Biden versus Palin/Dobbs? Are you serious?

6. NEW RULE: No more blaming Bush for what happens in
Afghanistan. This is Obama's baby now.

NOTHING should have stopped him from ending this insanity.

7. All of these politicians are the same.
Lesson learned. I can't believe I got sucked in by this one. I still would have voted for him, but I wish I hadn't let down my wall of skepticism and mistrust. They all deserve to be viewed that way.

8. Saying it would have to be preceded by believing it
If you like to think that politicians believe what they say (and vice versa).

12. candidate obama never said those words...
and then when president obama got the big drink from the firehose? learned all of the truths he had to deal with as the leader of the free world?

he couldn't say those words.

funny, isn't it? when president obama got the whole truth about what was actually happening? he had to act as a president. he had to accept all of the facts. and act accordingly.

funny how becoming president will do that to you...
