ABC's `Good Morning America' cancels Adam Lambert
NEW YORK - ABC's "Good Morning America" canceled an appearance by Adam Lambert following his racy American Music Awards performance, and he was quickly snapped up by ABC's morning rivals on CBS.

Lambert was to sing Wednesday on "GMA," but the network said Tuesday that "we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning."

"Obviously, I respect their decision - they gotta do what they gotta do," Lambert said Tuesday in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. "It's too bad, I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me.

"They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it."

While singing his new song "For Your Entertainment" at the awards program, Lambert kissed a male keyboardist, fondled a dancer and had another dancer briefly stuff his face in Lambert's crotch. It prompted many complaints to ABC.

6. "back in the day"
they wouldn't even let the rolling stones sing "let's spend the night together". they had to change the lyrics to be on teevee (ed sullivan iirc) by singing "let's spend some time together" lol

the clip is hilarious because jagger does an exaggerated eye roll as he sings that line

7. The Doors were told to do the same thing
on Sullivan, with the censors insisting that Jim Morrison not sing "Girl we couldn't get much HIGHER" on tv. But of course the Lizard King sang the lyric anyway. They were not invited back.

2. UPDATE ...
Almost as quickly as GMA canceled Lambert, the CBS Early Show added him to the lineup. Lambert will discuss the controversial AMA appearance and will perform live tomorrow morning.

35. CBS, aka the Ed Sullivan censorship/Janet Jackson boob network?
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 07:25 PM by alp227
Well as some have posted earlier The Doors and The Rolling Stones have had censorship spats with CBS's Ed Sullivan Show back in the late 1960s. Then around 35 years later Justin Timberlake exposes Janet Jackson, and then TV networks get all paranoid about exposed body parts and obscene words and implement editing-on-the-spot.

In terms of the news, CBS also sucked it up to the GOP in 2004 by pre-empting a 60 Minutes segment exposing evidence that Chimpy's plan for the war in Iraq was full of cow poop. That was of course after Dan Rather's controversial story that used those questionable Killian documents. Of course, there's no doubt about .

And now that Lambert is possibly gonna cause ABC to be fined for indecency just because he was being nasty before 10PM Central Time, ABC distances itself from Lambert. But now Censorship BullShit decides to intervene and make it up. At least they're allowing him to discuss the matter and will likely grill him, or bring someone from the Parents Television Council for the sake of balance?

29. No, I'm just sick and fucking tired of the dumbing down of the arts and celebration of shit.
I used to say "celebration of mediocrity" but it's to the point now that the mediocre would be a blessedly welcome improvement over what passes for art these days.

Adam Lambert is a piece of shit. And I know I call a lot of "artists" and so-called "musicians" pieces of shit, but this guy is truly, totally, and wondrously perfectly a piece of shit.

38. Agreed...Lambert is not that talented
I like his song Madworld, but it's simply a remake of an older song and the reason I like it has more to do with that they are using it on General Hospital repeatedly.

Anything that comes out of American Idol is pretty questionable, people fawn all over the winners. Fine, but it is a staged show and a method to "create" talent. The comparisons to The Doors or Rolling Stones are a joke.

32. He was a big deal on American Idol
There was some minor controversy over whether he lost in the final of the last series because conservatives were voting against 'teh gay', so there's a (very minor) political dimension to it.

10. Worst Performance Ever
I thought his performance was terrible - his voice cracked and was off tune while fumbling around sounding sometimes pop, to metal, to punk.

The antics were clumsy.

Fail for a host of reasons.

No one censored his performance last night. I don't recall Britney and Madonna making out on GMA. Not that I think Adam would have done that in that venue.

33. I disagree - Did you see the opening where Janet had a guy go down on her and then pretend to mount
him from behind?

This was the same broadcast. Janet opened, including simulated oral sex and her mounting a male from behind - that was not censored. However Adam having a male dancer do the same sans the mounting was edited out for the West coast.

18. Isn't it a bit insulting to assume that his 10pm performance will be repeated on a morning show?
Meanwhile, wasn't it Spears that made out with Madonna then later flashed her vag for the paparazzi and THEN became extremely unstable? If so, then why did she get numerous air time on Good Morning America when she started her Circus tour?

I don't care if you like or dislike Lambert's music, but come on. The double standard is pretty obvious.

21. Yesterday, Lady Gaga was on Jay Leno's show...
...and part of her dance routine was to have one of her male backup dancers pick her up with one arm looping between her legs from behind, hand pressed against her pelvis to steady Gaga as she was lifted up and posed.

Did anybody complain? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

And high contrast, with the dancer's flesh tone contrasted against Gaga's black unitard.

26. I hope this isn't a harbringer of things to come from him
It's a bit of a shame, because he was mostly elevated based on his talent. It was his talent he should have relied upon. Instead, it seems he's read his own press and taken it too much to heart. He's certainly read Chapter One of American media celebrity - get attention.

But hopefully he reads Chapter Two: Americans get very bored very quickly. You don't start with your amps on eleven. You build up to that.

What we got out of him was really horrid vocals, a limp song, and choreography that was just a mess. It reminded me a little of that Britney Spears comeback a few years ago where she flailed across the stage and you wanted to look away in embarrassment.

Instead of tapping into any of his talent, he went for spectacle - on network TV.

Now it's "Hurray for artistic expression!" And for those critics? "You're all discriminating!"

Oh Jesus. We don't need one of these. He needs to let his voice speak for itself. We don't need a white hot gay mess all over the television. We've had quite enough of those.

Maybe it's just me. I just don't have much patience for shocking for shocking's sake. Especially when it's going to be wrapped in precocious "expression" nonsense to hide a very mundane, very overdone, very uninteresting media personality who thinks outrageousness is a synonym for talent. Outragousness is awesome when done well and combined with great music from a great voice. That Adam Lambert was nowhere in evidence at the AMA's.

Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 07:47 PM by nini
Lambert, gaga, janet.. whatever. The people that have REAL talent don't have to hide behind over the top antics and crap.

But then I'm an old fart who appreciates good music and great voices, and doesn't need the antics to entertain me.

on edit: let me add GMA was wrong to do this. I doubt very much this guy doesn't have the sense to tone it down for that show. They overreacted and his response was very gracious considering.

40. Lady Gaga has a lot of real talent
she studied at the NYU Tisch School Of The Arts, and at age 17 was one of only 20 kids in the world to receive early admission. She writes all of her own music, plays multiple instruments, and is very gifted vocally. She got her career started by writing songs for other artists who did not have the talent to do so. Such as Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls, and New Kids On The Block. On that note, to bring this back to Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga is one of the many composers Adam Lambert used to pin his new CD for him. She wrote the song "Fever" which will be appearing on the disc as track number 10. In my opinion, it's one of the best tracks on the CD. Better than "For Your Entertainment" which he performed at the AMA's.

39. And now, the PTC says this cancellation was an "overreaction"
Edited on Wed Nov-25-09 06:10 PM by alp227
Parents group insists lambert cancellation is an 'overreaction'
from IBTimes, a UK newspaper

...Dan Isett, spokesman for standards organisation Parents Television Council, insists the TV executives have been too harsh on the talent show star.

He says, "I do think it’s a little bit unfortunate... The idea that he should be scrubbed from TV completely is not where we’re going. It may be a bit of an overreaction on ABC’s part."

And Isett insists his organisation was simply upset because the powers that be didn't censor Lambert's AMAs live performance, which was heavily edited when it aired three hours later on America's west coast.

He adds, "The important thing is that networks have the easy ability to air on a delay to prevent this sort of thing."

Nearly a 270-degree turnaround from what PTC felt on Monday, when they were sending out robo-generated complaint form to the FCC so that the feds could put their mouths where the money is.
