Fundies prepare to attack 10-yr-old who refuses to say Pledge of Allegiance in solidarity w/LGBTs
from the haters at the American Family Assn:

5th-grader doesn't pledge allegiance
Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 11/24/2009 6:20:00 AM

A 10-year-old Arkansas boy is refusing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in order to support special rights for homosexuals.

Will Phillips attends West Fork Elementary School in Arkansas and appeared on CNN, where he was asked why he refused to say the Pledge. "Well, I looked at the end (of the Pledge) and it said, 'with liberty and justice for all' -- and there really isn't liberty and justice for all," the student contends. "Gays and lesbians can't marry. There's still a lot of racism and sexism in the world."

After days of Phillips' refusal to voice the Pledge, the substitute teacher confronted him about it. The discussion led to an argument, and the fifth-grader reports: "I eventually, very solemnly, with a little bit of malice in my voice, said, 'Ma'am, with all due respect, you can go jump off a bridge.'"

Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel believes the boy has been "utterly manipulated and exploited by adult moral relativists who are indirectly using him and other children as political pawns in the burgeoning culture war that is reaching a boil."

Barber further finds that "it's really a testament to the level of success that liberal and secular and homosexual activist propagandists in Hollywood and in our public schools and in much of our elitist establishment organizations have enjoyed."

The lesson this incident sends, according to Barber, is that it is time for parents to responsibly teach their children the correct, Christian message concerning homosexuality.

3. Hopefully,

the real teacher would have known better.

I have to stand with my students, in the gym, every school morning while the pledge is recited. I rarely recite. When I do, it's to join in for that last line: "with liberty and justice for all."

The whole school is there. There are plenty of students not reciting. No teacher has ever made an issue of it.

When a students asks me why I don't recite with them, I reply,

"The purpose is for you to learn the pledge, by practicing it. I've already learned it. Once I've made a pledge, I either meant it, and will honor it, or I didn't, and won't. Repeating it doesn't change that. It just makes me feel like my word isn't trusted."

7. We tell our daughter she needn't "pledge" jack shit...and even though I've had good...
... experiences w/her teachers thus far, I've yet to get a straight response from any of them, or from admins, as to 'why' the need to force children to recite a "pledge" they know nothing about - in theory, language, terms, implications, etc. Such a bullshit move tends to raise my suspicions that the endeavor is simply intended to churn out 'good' and 'normal' people who, like Good Americans, question nothing.

12. You don't get a straight response from teachers
because it could backfire on them in a nasty way.

I think there is the same ratio of those who view the pledge as a sacred symbol of necessary patriotism and those who view it differently in education as anywhere else. Pushing that political hot-button is hazardous to one's job.

22. By & large she's had very liberal, fantastic women for teachers...
... not bashful re political stance to a degree, but questioning the Holy "Pledge" even rubs many liberals the wrong way...at least to the extent that the topic is usually dodged in favor of something safer.

is that it's none of my fucking business or anyone else's, and Jesus would say that too, you hypocritical piece of shit. Whatever happened to love thy neighbor?

I'm so sick of these assholes trying to dictate every piece of peoples' lives.

from adults... these people are pathetic fanatics.

On the bright side, this means the religious is much weaker than they realize. For them to go to such lengths toward a child, illustrates just how threatened they re of free thinking people.

I am so tired of those idiotic poor excuses for christians. At 10 this kid is twice as smart and twice as moral as those people. To think we will have to wait to 2036 to elect this kid President. I hope I live long enough to vote for him.

15. Suffer the Little Children to Come Unto Me
This kid is closer to Jesus, Unitarian-Universalism aside, than they'll ever hope to be.

"And they brought young children to Him, that He should touch them: and His disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God"
(Mark 10:13-14).
