Irony - Ronald Reagan (And Most Evey Republican) Would Fail The Republican Purity Test
The RNC is circulating a resolution articulating "Republican" principles, and if a Republican violates more than two principles, then the Republican would not be endorsed by the RNC. Well, Ronald Reagan and most every Republican violated #1 by increasing the deficit. Also, the California Environmental Quality Act was adopted during Ronald Reagan, so Reagan would fail the market-based energy reform requirement of #3. Indeed, isn't cap and trade supposed to be market based?

so they do have the proviso

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/23/gop-considers-purity-resolution-for-candidates/#more-54737

Here is the resolution’s list:

(1) We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like Obama’s “stimulus” bill;

(2) We support market-based health care reform and oppose Obama-style government run health care;

(3) We support market-based energy reforms by opposing cap and trade legislation;

(4) We support workers’ right to secret ballot by opposing card check;

(5) We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants;

(6) We support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military-recommended troop surges;

(7) We support containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat;

(8) We support retention of the Defense of Marriage Act;

(9) We support protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion; and

(10) We support the right to keep and bear arms by opposing government restrictions on gun ownership.

1. How many strikes does Palin have against her?
She supported socialized energy (everyone in Alaska gets a check for oil revenues), death panels (promoted end of life counselling as governor)...

Oh! bridge to nowhere! Three stikes, she's out. Right?

Naah, she's too popular with the base. But hey, they wouldn't be republicans if they didn't have "rules for you, but not for me".

2. Didn't Reagan also oppose firing gay California teachers in the 1970's?
That's what I seem to remember from The Times of Harvey Milk.
