Sorry if this is a dupe, but is anyone concerned about the State Dinner Tonite
with the Indian Prime Minister...Especially after reading yesterday about some TARP beneficiaries using OUR money to outsource IT jobs to India?

I've noticed that the M$M seem to be steering clear of this one...It's an issue which MUST be raised with this president.

1. No I'm much more concerned about whether he will bow or not
That's a lot more serious than the loss of bazillions of American jobs being outsourced.

16. Sarcasm and all...You come the closest to "getting it" here...
I guess there are no IT professionals on this thread...Yet.

2. Even looking at it from your perspective...
I would argue that the state dinner goes back to the primary foreign-policy point upon which Obama campaigned -- that we should talk with even our enemies, and that certainly allies such as India should be welcomed and treated to an open dialogue.

If it's simply the ostentatiousness of a state dinner that you find fault with, I'm not sure that Obama's really setting any sort of records here. It's his first one, after all.

12. No, I am honestly not finding fault with the State Dinner...
I didn't even think of it as particularly ostentatious...I'm really worried about Outsourcing..American IT workers have really taken a hit and I think it would be outrageous to be "outsourcing" American jobs right now.

The issue is was one of the major reasons why I didn't vote for Hillary, the "Senator from Punjab" in the primary.

3. No, why? Is Obama not a president? Should he not be permitted to host state dinners, ever?
Are we analyzing minutiae in Obama?

4. & since it is US companies doing the outsourcing, why would India's leader be persona non-grata?
Now, I could see getting riled up if a bunch of tax payer $$ recipients who then fired tax payers so they could use cheaper labor abroad were being given State Dinners.

6. I understand, but this is small beans compared to the big, huge, gigantic injustices we have to fix
Seriously. And if we're going to fight countries, how about fighting the country that's taken 90% of our jobs? China. I think we should look at the big picture. Dinners? No.

gives a flying fook about a DINNER?!

and who said anything about "fighting"?...I don't care if he has the effing dinner, I care if he uses the occassion of his visit (over dinner OR dessert) to GET MORE U.S. JOBS!

22. It's no "small beans" when you are an American IT Professional
who has lost his job to a non-citizen -- be he/she Indian, Chinese or European...I can assure you they find that to be an injustice "huge" enough.

18. Because, for one thing, they are, and have been,
pushing for more H-1 Visas...They are not passive players in this thing.

"Now, I could see getting riled up if a bunch of tax payer $$ recipients who then fired tax payers so they could use cheaper labor abroad were being given State Dinners".

The first three quarters of the above sentence is correct -- What's wrong is that instead of "dinners"...They are (or may be) giving them JOBS.

Memories are incredibily short around here -- It was just YESTERDAY that someone posted a link which talked about TARP recipients "considering" using OUR money to outsource jobs...Helloooo?!

5. To me, it's not a matter of hosting state dinners
He's our President. He deserves to take a breather now and then, even if he has to put on a tuxedo to do it.

I do have an issue with some media outlets oohinh and ahhing over "What's Michelle Obama going to wear?" when we still have troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, our health insurance crisis is getting worse every day, Detroit is becoming a ghost town, and we're still shipping jobs overseas.

We, as a nation, are hurting. And the media would do well to remember that working American families are bearing the majority of the pain.

7. Manmohan Singh is one of the more progressive world leaders out there
I'd think progressives would be ecstatic at the symbolism of him being the one chosen for the first state dinner. I know I got a big smile when I saw that.

9. Concerned? No. Lately it seems like Progressives off their Meds are likely the only ones concerned.
(not meaning you, particularly--it just seems that sometimes we're doing the RW's work for them)

FFS, he's the president of the United States.

He should shun the PM of India???

What a very Bush-like thing THAT would be.

:wtf:

Get a grip!

14. You are number Three...
Along with the others, you should give yourself a BIG pat on the back for Missing The Point Completely!

Given the propensity for completely misreading my OP here..e.g.(I'm upset about the "Dinner"?!)...I can only imagine that a lot of people here ARE upset said dinner, although for the life of me I can't imagine why...I'm talking about OUTSCOURCING...Remember that?..Hello?!
