republic of money: prescott bush, johns hopkins, Hoover's Treasury Secretary...
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 07:29 AM by Hannah Bell
Prescott's grandmother, Harriet Fay (1829), married James Bush.
Their son Samuel Prescott Bush was Prescott Bush's father, & George Bush's grandfather.

Harriet's sister Clara (1845) married Frank Hill Smith.
Their son Frank Hill Fay Smith was the father of Elizabeth Smith.
She married Jervis Janney (1908-1973):

His great-grandmother, Sarah Hopkins, was Johns Hopkins sister. Johns Hopkins never married; her family were heirs.

Johns Hopkins was born on Whitehall, a 500-acre tobacco plantation with approximately 500 slaves...The bulk of Hopkins' fortune however was made by his judicious investments in a myriad of ventures, most notably the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O), of which he became a Director in 1847 and Chairman of the Finance Committee in 1855. He was also President of Merchants' Bank...Living his entire adult life in Baltimore, Hopkins made many friends among the city's social elite, many of them members of the Society of Friends. One of these friends was George Peabody...

He left 7 million, mostly in B&O Stock, to found Johns Hopkins.

Johns Hopkins is ranked 69th in “The Wealthy 100: A Ranking of the Richest Americans".

Jervis Janney was thus Prescott Bush's 2nd cousin by marriage.

Jervis was the brother of this guy, whose wife was the daughter of Henry Carnegie Phipps: the son of Andrew Carnegie's partner Henry Phipps.

And his son, Stuart III, was:

Managing Director of Alex Brown & Sons from 1986 to 1994. (r/t Brown Brothers)

Partner at Brown & Sons Incorporated, where he spent nine years, most recently as Managing Director and Head of asset management. (r/t Brown Brothers, Prescott Bush's firm)

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bessemer Group Incorporated, Bessemer Trust Company, N.A. and Bessemer Trust Company of Florida since January 1995. (Bessemer = Carnegie/Phipps)

Mr. Janney was elected Chairman of the Board of Managers of Bessemer Securities LLC in June 1996.

He served as a Director of Brown Advisory and Trust Company and Alex Brown Holdings from 1986 to 1994. (r/t Brown Brothers)

He is a Trustee of the Johns Hopkins University and Chairman of its Applied Physics Lab.

1. More Fay relatives
Edited on Tue Nov-24-09 08:08 AM by Hannah Bell
Charles Fay (Harriet Fay (1829) uncle) + Charlotte Hopkins (relative of Johns Hopkins)
|
Harriet Fay (1836) + Charles Sanders Peirce (philosopher, logician,) appointed prof at Johns Hopkins University, then drummed out:

His first wife, Harriet Melusina Fay, left him in 1875. He soon took up with a woman... but his divorce from Harriet became final only in 1883, after which he married Juliette.

That year, Newcomb pointed out to a Johns Hopkins trustee that Peirce, while a Hopkins employee, had lived and traveled with a woman to whom he was not married. The ensuing scandal led to his dismissal.

Peirce's later applications for academic employment at Clark University, University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Michigan, Cornell University, Stanford University, and the University of Chicago were all unsuccessful... Presumably, his having lived with Juliette for years while still legally married to Harriet led him to be deemed morally unfit for academic employment anywhere in the USA.

Poverty...

2. And nowhere does it tell you
Prescott Bush tried to overthrow the government of the United States, to stop FDR from initiating social security. Way back then the Bush's didn't give a damn about this country. See what (the Constitution is just a damn piece of paper) George W. Bush, Prescott's grandson has done to this great country of ours. And also see, that they are still the greediest, dishonest and lying bunch of a family that ever populated this country.

And the republicans complain about JFK and Ted Kennedy's father being a rum runner. At least he didn't try to overthrow the government. He didn't steal from the public and you could say he was doing a lot of the public a service. How else were they going to get their booze.

3. And I should have added
If you ask any young person in this country who was Smedley Butler and Prescott Bush, none of them would know Smedley Butler prevented Prescott Bush from overthrowing the government. Butler was a man who could have become a dictator, and because he really loved this country of ours, he came forward and brought the plot to light.

11. Try adding something new to what we know, then.
Are you equally interested in the Joe Kennedy/Nazi links?

PS: You know, Dreamer Tatum, I searched your journal, but this wasn't in it. In fact, not to state the obvious, there was nothing in it.

23. Is it that there is a relationship between one of the greatest universities in the world
and the Bush family?

Because I admit, I didn't know that.

If the point is that the Bush family is mean, bad, and naughty, well, the prosecution has already rested.

It's that kind of incoherence that obscures your point -- or maybe I'm just dense.

So for the challenged, please explain! Just what is your "point"?
