Donnie McClurkin: "God did not call you (gays) to such perversions!"

The Church of God in Christ (COGIC) is the largest African American and largest Pentecostal church in the United States. And as the largest denominational black church in the country it is also the loudest in rebuking homosexuality.

With many of the gospel music industry mega-stars from COGIC, the church's charismatic worship style shouts to a black gay male queer gospel aesthetic every Sunday. And the church is conflicted with itself.

Unfortunately, these black gay male mega-stars are always forced to go back into the closet denouncing publicly their sexual orientation at the church's annual convocation.

Case in point: Speaking at the COGIC’s 102nd Holy Convocation International Youth Department Worship Service on November 7 held at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, Pastor Donnie McClurkin, the poster boy for African American ex-gay ministries, was one of them.

“God did not call you to such perversions. Your only hope is Jesus Christ. Were it not for this Jesus I would be a homosexual today. This God is a deliverer,” McClurkin told his audience.

6. He's right!
God did not call me to such "perversions" and that is why I stopped going to church. I could no longer tolerate the perverse activity of organized religion. That's what he is talking about, right? Organized religion, mega churches, and fork tongued, money grubbing, homophobic preachers being perversions, right?

P.S. Blow it out your ass, Pastor McCluckin' or whatever the hell your name is.

9. Too bad there isn't a hell because this man needs one.
I was just watching a video of the 80th anniversary of James Baldwin's birth. Skip Gates said the Harlem Renaissance could have been called the Gay Renaissance and he talked about having generations of gay people in his family and what it was like for them growing up in the village where his family is from in WV and how everything James Baldwin accomplished, he did while being black and gay in public.

For all the damage you're doing, "Donnie", I hope you pay for it somehow.

17. I am getting very tired of these self-appointed spokesmodels for GOD
and I consider it an abridgement of MY first amendment rights to worship to be constantly told by someone else's selected "beliefs" that my life is perverted. It is long past time for the gay community to start charging these alleged "Christians" with their own perversions (we certainly know there is a long laundry list) and demand their civil rights be repressed - or we can't practice our own "religious" beliefs.

This hocus-pocus crap about using Jesus to oppress yourself and others is just way over-the-top. And the gay community has repeatedly been forced to pay in their lives, their livelihoods, and their property for perverts like McClurkin to "practice" his "religion" of oppression and dehumanizing of others.

Donnie McClurkin is NOT the spokesmodel for GOD. Nor is his church. Nor are all the Roman Catholic bishops and their criminal minds, the evangelicals with their constant projections of other people's imagined sexual behaviors, nor the Mormons with their magic underwear. The real perverts are these very same people who demand that others be forced to bow down to their fake "religion" and pay duty to it with their constitutional rights.

And that's a bit like the Bible, when you think about it. A thin plot, story threads everywhere, and just horrifying editing.

So it must be true.

Oh, I still read them all eventually, but it was more out of a sense of schadenfreude. The Blood Canticle debacle on amazon.com enthralled. It was one long, deeply satisfying, literary train wreck. I couldn't look away.

This criticism of Merrick leaves me in stitches to this day:

50. Thanks for sharing the latest Donniebrook
I really liked Rev. Monroe's thoughtful piece. For every money grubbing and pitiful wretch like Donnie, there are dozens of Irene Monroes. Donnie sang for Bush, for Obama, for anybody who threw him a buck and a bone to fetch. He represents the past in every way, which is why he backbites so bitterly against Tonex, who lives free and is the future. I've seen it before.
And let's not let a Miss McClurkinthang story pass without mentioning that he was Barack Obama's choice to speak on his behalf. This bitter, backbiting, old moth cake of a man.

51. A bit more of Tonex:
http://rodonline.typepad.com/rodonline/2009/09/stellar-award-winning-gospel-recording-star-tonex-confirms-rumors-discusses-same-sex-attraction.html

Anthony Charles Williams II, the Stellar Award-winning gospel singing artist, producer and minister better known by his stage name Tonex, confirms his long-rumored sexuality and admits that he "is" attracted to men. Tonex's admission on the popular The Lexi Show, a popular gospel and Christian YouTube show, is perhaps the first time a gospel singer has confirmed their homosexuality, writes Darian Aaron, the Atlanta-based blogger and gospel music fan.

"Tonex boldly opens the closet door in a way that I could never imagine anyone else in the gospel music industry having the courage to do. As a childhood victim of molestation, Tonex refuses to blame his same-sex attraction on this experience like many of his colleagues who "struggle" with homosexuality (i.e. Donnie McClurkin) and corrects the interviewer when she attempts to frame the discussion in this way. 'It wasn't a struggle. And then people like to blame the struggle on molestation. No. Just say you were attracted to men and be honest and quit blaming it on that experience', says Tonex."

Although Tonex does not come out and say he is "gay". But several times in the interview he emphasizes that he "is attracted" to men and that is "not a struggle". On numerous previous times, the flamboyant recording artist has denied that he was gay, most famously on the 2007 video of The Naked Truth and an infamous YouTube video where he swore and used profanity. "I take ownership for that," Tonex now admits.

Tonex also blasts the black church for its hypocrisy and its mistreatment of LGBTs: "The church has completely faggotized everybody who's gay, sends them to hell over the pulpit and the church literally screams hooray and are happy about that. And yet, we celebrate the pastor who has a clean record and a clean look, but yet he is still doing the same thing that the same gender loving people are doing."
