SHH it is not just medical that we need to change
Edited on Mon Nov-23-09 08:48 PM by nadinbrzezinski
so we had our dental work... yes we are good kids and do it every so often, as recommended. We also have "good" dental insurance. And in-spite of the fact that we have good insurance the amount of procedures not covered or only partially is down right astounding. On the plus side we do have a rainy fund... don't ask... on the down side, no wonder people don't take care of their teeth...

Oh I should add... I hope that the pain is gone by Thursday!

1. I hope so, too! Take antibiotic!!! and rinse with care.
Just had some 'covered' work done, but need/would like some more work (so I could EAT at a reasonable pace!) which is uncovered! MY rainy fund is 'stranged husb, and not looking forward to telling him, 'Send me $1200.'

3. I just had a root canal, with other indicated work to prepare for a crown
Hubby has to get extensive work done in January because of severe periodontal disease. This is the first year we have any dental insurance and we get to find out how much it covers. We can't tell from the information we have on his employer provided policy.

I have an emergency fund which is already reduced because of the co-pays from my shoulder surgery in June and I hope it will be enough to pay for everything. I also need a crown on another tooth but that can wait a bit.

It would not be so frustrating if we could even predict how much our share would be so we could plan. Prior to my shoulder surgery I could not get a concept - I knew what my deductible was, but other than that, it was an unknown quantity. Same thing now - we just do not know.

Good luck with your work - if you dentist is as good as mine, the pain will be gone soon!

4. Good luck with the crown and all that
I had one two years ago... and it can be a pain, literally.

And he is good... but still... my teeth are sensitive anyway...

:-)

6. Thanks - this is a new dentist and he is really good
I loved my old dentist but he retired a few years ago and it's taken me this long to find a new one. The new guy is up to date on the new technologies and he is great, as was the periodontist that had to do some work to prepare for the crown. The periodontist even called me at 6:30 that night to make sure I was doing OK!

This will be my third crown and I have three bridges also - combination of some baby teeth that had no adult replacements and soft teeth. At my age, I think I am doing pretty good to have as many of my original teeth as I do!

Take care with you teeth - I hope the pain is gone quickly!

5. OMG Dental Insurance sucks!
I mean something is better than nothing but it is really inadequate! We have 1000.00 per year per family member. What a joke and no coverage for braces. I took dental through my job so we could have 2000.00 per person but still! Why is dental work not considered like any other doctor's visit?

7. single-payer with dental and vision is what we NEED and what we should already have.
if not for the fact that so many stupid short-sighted selfish greedy assholes vote in EACH AND EVERY selection, and so many otherwise reasonable, intelligent, social-conscience bearing, individuals simply don't.
we have the numbers- we just need the initiative.
