Afghanistan War Strategy
A USA military solution to the Taliban activity in Afghanistan is not practical, nor will it win. I believe that the USA should encourage the moderate Muslim countries in that area, most notably Saudi Arabia, to help in the effort to stop the Taliban. With USA support, these fellow Muslim regions should organize a Religious-Military operation to fight the Taliban. This will provide the Afghanistan people a humane and viable fighting force that can defeat the Taliban without the dominance and brutality of the USA military. There are about 50 Muslim countries, and a sizable number that are friendly to the USA. The Religious-Military force could be a collaboration of progressive Christian and Muslim religions, combined to give the Afghan people protection against the Taliban. Both religions practice tolerance, as a means toward peace, and a solution to what the world faces today. Some might suggest that a Religious-Military force is a contradiction in terms, the Taliban however, is that type of army and they appear to be very successful.

1. I think that Jordan would probably be a better ally for this
Since Saudi Arabia is still controlled by the Wahabists, I don't really see them as a moderate partner in the strategy you propose.

2. I don't think moderate countries in that region are interested.
Best I can find, the have the Saudi's have about 200,000 men in their military and spend about 10% of their GDP on the military. To make a real presence in Afghanistan, they would have to expend money and possibly increase the size of their military. They had no real problems with the Taliban before the US invaded. If we left, I suspect it would be live and let live, Allah is great.

The Saudi's and Iran are not close friends. Iran would not desire a large Sunni military presence in Afghanistan or welcome the kind or regional power that the Saudi's would have to be to runs such a thing.

I don't think you have any single leader in the region capable of holding together such a coalition. Either we solve this conflict ourselves or leave and let the Taliban murder everyone that supported the US and NATO, then get down to the business of running a religiously intolerant, medieval state.
