Billy Graham invites Sarah Palin to dinner
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is visiting western North Carolina to have dinner with the Rev. Billy Graham.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Sunday that a spokesman with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said today that Palin would join Billy Graham and his son Franklin for dinner tonight at Graham’s home near Asheville.

Graham spokesman Jeremy Blume said Palin, who’s on a tour promoting her new book, "Going Rogue," is scheduled to arrive around mid-afternoon Sunday.

Blume said Graham heard Palin was in the Asheville area for her book tour and invited her to dinner.

Palin’s book tour will stop at Fort Bragg on Monday.

This has to be Franklin's doing. He has a home in Alaska and is in some unholy alliance with religious groups that are connected to Palin.

3. I don't think so.
I think he'd rather muck about in the shadows with his group, 'Hypocrites Haversack', and cause trouble there. This is probably an event to try to tie Billy's name to Palin. It's a win-win for Franklin and Sarah.

4. I' not sure even Billy
has the stamina and power to do that. Gawd himself would have to file off the cloven hooves.

5. Billy Graham has a long association with republican presidents-
I dont' necessarily think he'd endorse Palin,
but I've been wrong before.

His health is very bad, he's very frail.
Graham, altho a strict evangelical, is up front
about his beliefs, but he can also be gracious.

I believe FRanklin, the anointed son, is behind this,
and I don't trust Franklin a bit.

However, the wild card is Graham's daughter,
I think her name is Amy, and she has the fire
in the belly that gave her father his drive.
She's the one who can preach with evangelical fervor,
and I wonder if she can see thru the Palin charade.

Another instance where I'd love to be a fly on the wall...

Palin dines, prays with Rev. Billy Graham in NC
MONTREAT, N.C. — Sarah Palin on Sunday dined and prayed with the Rev. Billy Graham, who has counseled presidents and other politicians for decades.

Graham had never met Palin, who is scheduled to stop at Fort Bragg in eastern North Carolina on Monday to promote her memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life." The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and members of her family flew into Asheville in the western part of the state, then went to Graham's mountaintop home in nearby Montreat for dinner.

Billy Graham said it was an honor having Palin in his home to join his family for dinner and that they took the opportunity to pray together.

"I, like many people, have been impressed with her strong commitment to her faith, to family and love of country," he said in a statement. "I appreciated hearing her speak of her own spiritual journey and her life in Alaska."

Palin was joined by her parents, Chuck and Sally Heath, aunt, Katie Johnson, daughter, Piper, and son, Trig.

Graham's son, Franklin, got to know Palin early this year in Alaska and he invited her to North Carolina. She accompanied him as Samaritan's Purse, a Boone-based international relief agency he heads, delivered 44,000 pounds of groceries to Alaskan families who had been hit by a harsh winter in villages along the frozen Yukon River.

Samaritan's Purse has an office in Alaska, and Franklin Graham owns a cabin in the state. He also leads the Charlotte-based Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, which his father founded decades ago.

6. Billy Graham is typical of our evangelical "leaders".
He has never used his "holiness" to address any ungodly acts by ANY administration. Of course, not believing in the supernatural, it's hard for me to believe that anybody in the evangelical business really believes that schtick, but it sure keeps the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ rolling in.

9. I didn't because
the religious funeral of the millenia would have penetrated my world. When he passes, it will make Russert's and Teddy's passings seem like blips on the radar.

People on both sides of the aisle will express their sadness. Graham is viewed by people who don't pay attention as some sort of benign, middle-of-the-road influence on people and Presidents. However, he is far from that.

13. He Played A Lot Of Golf With Him
He got along with every president but HST and Jimmy Carter. His religiousity put HST off and Jimmy Carter was wary bringing further attention to his religion.

16. Yeah- He Made A Lot Of Horrible Statements In His Conversations With Nixon
But he did play golf with JFK

He was a good friend to Clinton, defended him during impeachement much to the consternation of the right wingers, and is about as middle of the road as an evangelical or evangelist can get.

21. Didn't he piss off LBJ
By doing a photo-op on the White House lawn where he was in a prayer circle with other ministers after they had left a meeting with the president?

I remember reading about how he was more upset with Nixon over his filthy language than anything else - including being anti-Semitic on the tapes.

23.  Palin flies on Samaritan's Purse plane on trip to Fort Bragg
http://divasblueoasis.com/diary/936/palin-flies-on-samaritans-purse-planeentourage-begs-for-bashes-obama-at-ft-bragg

Sarah Palin arrived in North Carolina Sunday by way of Asheville. She was slated to have a much-touted dinner with Franklin Graham and his father Billy. While this is a video made by a fan (so pardon the drippiness) it does provide a good view of the plane she arrived on...and the call number. You may also see some "interesting" dynamics at play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADWQlRZlPag

I received this message this morning regarding the plane from a trusted reader:

"Linda, Thought I would let you know. The plane Sarah flew in to Asheville had the N number 262SP. The SP does not stand for Sarah Palin but the plane is owned by Samaritans Purse. I checked it out at the FAA registry. Wonder if that plane is being used at Rochester and other book signing destinations? Samaritan donations being put to good use to haul Palin's carcass around."

As if that was not interesting enough, he wrote back later:

Tried to check the flight activity for this airplane (N262SP) at Flightwise.com http://flightwise.com/track/N262SP . The flight activity for this plane is blocked by the owner. Guess he doesn't want anyone to know where he is flying. This is a good site to track an airplane's activity. Might come in handy for checking the use of AK state airplanes.

Yup, especially those Alaska planes now leased by Samaritan's Purse up here.

It seems that one must apply to have their plane's schedule made "private" and in doing so, a reason must be provided. I'd love to see the reason Franklin Graham gave for blocking access.

snip

After what we've seen at Ft. Bragg today http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34110893/ns/politics-more_politics/ , it's easy to see why they didn't want the press to document the activities.

But the bus parked nearby encouraged donations to her political action committee and supporters made clear that she should run for president.
