Pop Quiz,,part 2.. History |
Edited on Sun Nov-22-09 10:15 PM by SoCalDem
I stumbled upon this on Google & thought it would be fun to revisit it, and to see if our newer members had better history teachers..
I added a few new ones:) you can check here to see what we remembered 3 years ago SoCalDem Donating Member (1000+ posts) Sat Jul-22-06 04:17 PM Original message Pop Quiz.. History.. (no cheating) Here's my idea.. This is a free association sort of quiz to test what we (as adults) have pop into our minds when we hear or read something.. I'm not asking for the "specialists" among us who are history teachers, phds, professional historians.. I am going for the "regular joes" on the board.. I'm aiming for the stuff that is stuck to the "roof of your brain"....the stuff you learned FIRST about things..and the stuff that is ALWAYS there.. (Just want y'all to know, I DO know more about these things..I am after the "crusty residue" that is always there without having to think about it :P..) Just copy the list and write next to it the FIRST thing that comes to mind when you read the words disclaimer:.. What you think of may or may not be even TRUE..I am after the stuff that clogs our brains about things/people/events and how what we were taught as kids remains with us...always... (no need for lengthy responses ...unless you cannot help yourself :P..) I'll do my responses in a reply...(don't peek at other people's answers until you put yours down though, or it might influence your first responses.. Feel free to add your own.......(in a separate reply...label Quiz ..pt 2...pt 3..etc and your answers to them in reply so people don't see yours until they put theirs) be HONEST too.. no one's out to shame anyone because they remember something silly.. It's about how we are taught things in school, how much we retain..what we retain, and what a waste it is to be taught "trivia" when our brains are MOST receptive to really learning.. here goes: George Washington..................................... The Potomac/Delaware River......................... 1066........................................................... Paul Revere................................................. "Remember the Maine"................................. Corregidor.................................................... Gen McArthur.............................................. What Was The Outcome Of The Manhattan Project?
In 1945 the United States covert operation known as The Manhattan Project achieved its goal - to create the first atomic bomb. Since its inception in 1939, scientist had struggled to find a way to harness the power of fission. Through the combined efforts of many, a test bomb known as "Fat Boy" was finally created. On July 16, 1945 in a desert in New Mexico the worlds first nuclear test, codenamed Trinity, was conducted and ushered in the Atomic Age. The Trinity test success led to the creation of two more atomic bombs that would be used in WWII. http://gk12.rice.edu/trs/science/Atom/man.htm |
