As DU's fundraiser comes to an end...
I look up at the banner across every page, and I recognize some of the best charities in our country...

I think how we've helped them help so many people at this critical time...

But I can't help but wonder: Did Skinner get the 1000 donations that he always says he needs to keep our website running?

He must have, and I hope he did.

I am profoundly grateful for DU, for all the good things it does for us, and now for the people who will benefit from our fundraiser!

4. I wondered the same thing. I hope that they - we - got enough donations
though times are hard for most of us and... even though the numbers say that more than 150,000 are DU members, the reality is that there are probably about half that number who regularly log on.

7. I think the DU fund-raising drive is different than other fund-raisers.
If I understand correctly, the DU target is number of donors. In most fund-raising campaigns, the target is number of dollars.

That's deeply Democratic.

8. Public Radio is the same
When they have the fund drive they want, say, 3000 donors for the "All Things Considered" program.

12. Thanks, CaliforniaPeggy, but
From Skinner's post

"we brought in the funds we need to keep the site running for another three months."

Only three months? What happens next, or, if there are not enough funds? As I've noted, it is clear that a lot fewer are now on DU and many cannot afford to contribute as they used to..

13. If I'm not mistaken, the fundraisers are every 3 months...
Four times a year...

Once per season.

That's how it's always been, ever since I've been a member...

Not to worry!

14. If you give your star away do you still get to keep the "donated to the fourth quarter" decoration?

How do you give your star away? (Where's that darn star needed thread anyway?)

15. No, and it does not start the yearly count
A star elapses after a year, so if you gave someone else a star, that date does not count for you.

You really do not give "your star." When you donate, the form allows you to assign the star for someone else.

Some of us, when we see posts of other DUers who cannot access certain forums because they lack a star, or when we simply ask others if they need a star, donate on their behalf.
