Thanksgiving is coming up, here is your chance to make me feel guilty or bad about it

Will be hanging with my brother, SIL, Nieces, Nephew, and the husbands/gfs/kids, etc, and my daughter.

Going to have turkey, home made noodles (which have eggs and flour bought probably at wal mart or Krogers and packaged by a big corporation), might have some beer, a few smokes outside (thank god I don't have anyone living next door to me!). Home made sage dressing, hopefully some oyster dressing (which I usually make), and some cream corned casserole. Not to mention dessert. If we

We probably won't bring up God, Christopher Columbus, Indians, or pilgrims - we probably will talk about mom a bit though and complain about a few things.

If we did talk about Indians it would probably go something like "Uh, they did a good job killing each other long before we got here, so how are they morally better?" And if it turns to God it might turn into something like "Look, I know you are a catholic and all, but what is up with all that Mary stuff?".

If it comes to pilgrims it will turn into something like "I hope I never live in a world where pilgrims are in charge, Puritans should keep their morals to themselves and not enforce them on others - and sadly there are a lot of puritans out there today trying to tell us why we are sinners and trying to make us follow their beliefs."

I enjoy our dinners, I miss them with my mom. And I can't ever remember growing up feeling bad for what we ate or for even celebrating a day of thanks.

Tell me why I should.

3. love your post. your thanksgiving sounds wonderful. have a fantastic time.

I'll be spending thanksgiving with friends at their gorgeous farm and wonderful old farmhouse. They provide the homegrown turkey and stuffing. Guests bring everything else. There will be about 25 of us. It's an eclectic group. The food will be incredible and then we'll play charades and people will pull out instruments and we'll sing. I'm damned thankful.

5. ill be working on thanksgiving, though we are deep frying turkeys

and having hams etc, so if my schedule stays the same i will be eating my turkey, potatoes etc in front of about 50 female inmates who had a bologne sandwich and two cookies for their dinner, should i feel guilty for this, not one bit. Same as i dont feel any guilt for anything else that happened here in the past, nothing to do with me at all...

8. Thanksgiving is based on a harvest festival with Native people and refugees

from the oppressive rule of England and its church.

The Pilgrims were not the same as those who followed and who mass murdered the Native peoples (although there were conflicts at first generally things were relatively smooth between the pilgrims and the local natives.

The religious leader of the Pilgrims had called the Church of England "the whore of babylon" and was a dissident who had a death sentence on his head and had fled to Holland setting up an underground press with a fake name --- and he came here to escape persecution by that King and Church.

If you read "Mourt's Relation" wherein the first Thanksgiving is described it was a joyous celebration and a multicultural one. Natives brought venison and turkey and probably clams and mussels were part of the meal flavored with maple syrup and sassafras and berries in Pemmican. Fish too (as it was on the bay).

The opportunists and exploiters who followed the Pilgrims were the uptight and murderous Puritans who committed genocide and annihilation and massive land fraud and theft...

so the celebration of the first Thanksgiving was probably what we all wish it should be and could have been through the ages...

The pilgrims did not come to enslave and plunder --- and they hung out with the first peoples.

9. i'm very excited about Thanksgiving, and am looking forward to celebrating.

however, i can't back you on the oyster dressing.

i love dressing, and i like seafood. the combo of the two makes me want to yak, though.
