1. Let me know who as soon as you find out
and I will donate.

My pockets aren't that deep any more, but they're deep enough to help unseat that woman hating piece of shit.

7. From what I hear, there are at least two people heavily involved in local politics
who will stand if no one else will. As soon as I have a name, I will post, believe me!!

9. A word of advice.
It won't help the challenger if it's known in the district that outside supporters of the challenger (if there is one) are calling Stupak a "woman hating piece of shit".

12. I hope that people here will take your advice.
I'm going out to the northern part of Hoekstra's district on Wednesday for Thanksgiving. I don't think that it is a whole lot different from where you are, really.

Outside money and influence don't play well there, either.

15. No, no it won't
I actually have concerns about the region electing someone conservative (in most if not all aspects). Though I deplore the "Stupak amendment" and his desire to codify his personal/ religious beliefs ... I don't believe he's going to be replaced by anyone that is more liberal ... or pro-choice.

18. Stupak is what he is
and I imagine most women in his district now know what he is.

I'm not going to go up there and hop onto a soapbox with a bullhorn to announce it, dear. I'm sending his opposition a contribution.

Shame on you for trying to shut any of us up.

20. Stupak has been in office since '93. His views on abortion are well known here.
Discussing an issue is not the same as trying to shut anyone up. What I am trying to do is let know what the situation is here in the 1st Congressional District of Michigan.

4. If Stupak's--
--anti-choice attitudes represent the people who elected him, should he be given a pass on the Stupak amendment?

5. "given a pass"
If another candidate challanges him and can make the case that she'll represent her district better, then, no.

8. I agree
However, if he does represent the views of his district, my bet is that a Dem that beats him in the primaries will be beat in the general.

But there's something to be said for actually having two parties running, rather than two shades of one party.

11. Obama and McCain split the district 50/50. Bush won it easily in '00 & '04.

21. Were these supporters of his in a primary, or against a Republican?

That looks like a list that would support a democrat over a republican even if he/she were pro choice.

22. Had to do some google searching.
The last primary challenge to Stupak was in 2000 when he won, 86,143 to 5,051, against Sven Johnson.

A write up of Stupak's district:

"As a whole, the 1st backs Democratic candidates, but even the most liberal voters tend to be socially conservative. A strong tradition of union organization among miners and mill workers has left the western and central UP strongly Democratic, a preference shared by the eastern counties in the northern part of the state. At the top of the "mitten," the state's northwestern counties, with their growing population of retired executives, tend to go for Republicans."
