Making the status quo sacrosanct is why American Healthcare reform is doomed to eventual failure
When something doesn't work, or doesn't work well enough, it gets discarded when something better is discovered. Such is the way of the world and we have a name for it - "Progress". Just as Copernicus did not try to make his theories fit the geo-centric world of Ptolemy, Henry Ford did not try to make a better horse harness, and IBM did not stick with punch card tabulating.

The premise of maintaining the status quo in healthcare reform is the direct opposite of the courageous and brave intellect that founded our nation. It is the antithesis of progress in general and of that American daring and innovation of which we are so proud. As our citizens die for lack of care and while more effective models are in place globally, our politicians contort themselves into pretzels in order to preserve the 37th ranked healthcare system in the world. Why? It may be 37th in care but it is number 1 in political graft. They found the bit worth preserving.

1. Since we seemed to have accepted the idea that we are a center
right country, status quo is the only way to go. No broad or
sweeping changes. ( Sarcasm.) Expect only right leaning
legislation that sucks up to business.

2. Make no mistake, I hope the current legislation passes
because we have to do something. But it is disappointing to see that our system is so broken and that the vision is so curtailed. We will have to visit healthcare reform every 4 years until we finally get rid of the vestiges of that which is not worth keeping.
