Ten tremendious lies
Edited on Sat Nov-21-09 09:10 PM by Cyrano
“Trust me.” -- When you hear those two words, be on your guard, and maybe even run.

“And this comes with a lifetime guarantee.” -- How many companies last that long?

“I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” -- Almost fifty percent of marriages end in divorce.

“… and I swear to uphold the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” -- When has this ever been enforced against domestic enemies? (And they are perhaps our most dangerous enemies.)

“God is an American.” -- Give me a fucking break.

“America is a Christian country.” -- So if you’re not a Christian, why don’t you just go away or kill yourself?

“Democrats are socialists.” -- My problem with that is, too many aren’t.

“America is the freest country in the history of the world.” -- If only it were so.

“Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” -- But what if they have bad breath?

(Warning, the next one is obscene.)

“I promise I won’t come in your mouth.” -- Okay, but when talking about lies, how could I possibly have left this one out? It's perhaps the most often told lie in the world.

Please feel free to add to this list.

I said they are being USED for purposes that are not what they think they are.

And yet, technically, what does it matter what they think the purpose is; theirs is to obey without question.

38. That is a right-wing talking point, 'denigrating their service'.
Criticism was against what the military is actually being used for, i.e., promoting the interests of the oil and gas lobby.

The actual people involved are fulfilling their oaths, and following orders. They have no say in the matter; they are to do as told.

They are not fighting for our freedom. If you actually believe that, you have fallen for the simplistic jingoism that is currently disguised as patriotism.

If there was no oil in Iraq, we wouldn't be there. If there was no gas pipeline that needed built in Afghanistan, we wouldn't be there, either.

There is a valid reason Cheney fights with every resource available to keep his meeting with the oil and gas men a 'state secret'.

And remember this fact: the United States military is the largest, single user of refined petroleum products on the planet Earth. They have a vested interest to keep access to that resource, in order to survive as an organization.

The U.S. DoD uses approximately the same amount of oil, on a daily basis, as the entire country of Greece uses, on a daily basis.

14. In Iraq & Afghanistan, have the size of the conflicts, the trajectory of events, and the financial
burden on present day and future Americans not been fundamentally inflated by the use of private contractors and mercenaries?

If I were to yield some necessity to Freedom in these Wars, you might admit that that mission was seriously perverted by the profit motive and, thus, Enslaved us more than it had anything to do with our "Freedom".

36. Military service is a selfless sacrifice.
No, it isn't. Look, I don't deny there are a lot of military people who genuinely want to serve their country, and that's great. However, that does NOT make service selfless. You show me somebody who is refusing the paycheck, the health care, and the GI Bill and I'll concede it is "selfless" service. I'm not suggesting anyone should do that, just saying that to call military service "selfless" abuses the English language and amounts to propaganda.

Of course there are benefits given to those in the service and to veterans.

But let me ask you this. What's the chances you'll end up dead when you go to work? Infinitesimal for most people.

But it's an ever present reality when you put on that uniform. And if you don't call putting your life on the line daily a "selfless sacrifice," I don't know what is.

Is working in a convenience store a selfless or heroic act? Your odds of being shot there are greater than your odds in most military activities, including active duty combat (in most cases).

Being in Vietnam was not like working in a convenience store. Just be thankful every day of your life that you weren't there.

There are things most of us won't talk about to this day.

And although I should have just ended this with the previous sentence, you don't have a clue what the fuck you're talking about.

Have a good life.

You didn't ask us.

Imagine the same job without all of the gaurantees and absolute job security, like the rest of us live, would you "put your life on the line" then?

Pardon me, I am a veteran, never saw combat, but did train off and on for about 10 years in an air re-fueling group as an "electronic news gatherer", with all other branches. Most military never leave their desks.

41. Dave Frishberg's 'Blizzard of Lies'
We must have lunch real soon. Your luggage is checked through.
We've got inflation licked. I'll get right back to you.
It's just a standard form. Tomorrow without fail.
Pleased to meet you. Thanks a lot. Your check is in the mail.
Marooned, marooned, marooned in a blizzard of lies.
Marooned, marooned, marooned in a blizzard of lies.
Your toes and knees aren't all you'll freeze
When you're in it up to your thighs.
It looks like snow, but you never know
When you're marooned in a blizzard of lies.
You may have won a prize. Won't wrinkle, shrink or peel.
Your secret's safe with me. This is a real good deal.
It's finger lickin' good. Strictly by the book.
What's fair is fair. I'll be right there. I am not a crook.
Marooned, marooned, marooned in a blizzard of lies.
Marooned, marooned, marooned in a blizzard of lies.
Better watch your step when your old dog Shep
Can't even look you in the eyes.
You're cold and lost and you're double crossed
When you're marooned in a blizzard of lies.
We'll send someone right out. Now this won't hurt a bit.
He's in a meeting now. The coat's a perfect fit.
It's strictly fresh today. Service with a smile.
I'll love you darling 'till I die. We'll keep your name on file.
Marooned, marooned, marooned in a blizzard of lies.
Marooned, marooned, marooned in a blizzard of lies.
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart.
And you're in for a big surprise.
When you're marooned, marooned, marooned
marooned, marooned, marooned,
marooned, marooned, marooned in a blizzard of lies.
A blizzard of lies.
