Overheard a Rapture Ready conversation today.
Browsing around in a thrift shop I frequent, I actually heard the owner ladies discussing...

"He's coming back. He's going to take the believers"..then something about 7 years....
then I heard.."then there will be heaven on earth."

I couldn't believe it. I remember overhearing this same owner lady remarking back in 2004 why she didn't understand why they were so rough on Bush.

Do they actually think a man reported to have been Jesus is just going to magically re-appear?

That belief is almost as bazarre as the rumor that the Religious Powers That Be are going to stage some kind of halographic "appearance" so that it looks like he has come back.

My God, what a weird world we live in!

2. Sounds like the conversation I heard at a nice restaurant in east texas.
But Obama smokes? What about his health care? Is he gonna pay more?
Well, it won't matter anyway, we're all gonna be raptured soon, TV Preacher blah blah, prophecy blah blah, revelation blah blah...

6. Sadly, they HAVE changed--and not for the better.
This rapture and Biblical literalism crap mostly all started in the 19th century, when literacy outpaced cognitive development & people got into reading the Bible without the wit to understand its allegorical nature.

15. I frequent several thrift shops, but I may or may not decide to
continue with them. I don't think I'm helping to fund some radical takeover militia or anything, by visiting them occasionally.

12. Rapture Jesus is not a nice Jesus
He whisks away the true believers to a safe place and then spends the next seven years kicking ass, taking names, and generally making life miserable for the unchosen.

Why anyone would want to be affiliated with a being who is going to oversee the painful, tortuous murder of most of the people in the world is beyond my comprehension.
