15. Issuing subpoenas is not the same as SERVING subpoenas.
It's the last possible opportunity for a witness to "voluntarily" agree to produce documents and testify under oath. Let's hope the Committee follows through with this and actually serves these subpoenas within days.

36. There isn't any.
I've been searching Google News and blogsites for confirmation of this since the OP.

Either the OP mis-heard or CSPAN misspoke of a subpoena issuance.

As far as I know there are 3 steps involved:

1. Approval

2. Issuance

3. Serving

Hoping...

I have not been able to find any independent confirmation either, and that is why I asked for people to let me know if I was in error.

However, I did read it on the tv screen. CSPAN3 is running the entire hearing again tonight after the Senate shuts down. Maybe someone will see what I saw on the replay.

62. "criminal"
The Supreme Court does have the final voice in determining constitutional questions; no person, not even the President of the United States, is completely above law; and the president cannot use executive privilege as an excuse to withhold evidence that is 'demonstrably relevant in a criminal trial.'

The phrase "criminal trial" is what worries me.

41. Yes, same here
I googled Subpoenas issued for Rove and Miers

and got links that go as far back as Friday, March 23, 2007.

For example, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/22/AR2007032200213_pf.html

Senate Panel Approves Subpoenas for 3 Top Bush Aides

By Paul Kane
washingtonpost.com Staff Writer
Friday, March 23, 2007; A04

Escalating a potential legal showdown with President Bush, a Senate committee yesterday approved three subpoenas to top administration officials, including White House adviser Karl Rove, demanding sworn testimony about what they knew of plans to fire eight U.S. attorneys.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, following similar action from a House Judiciary subcommittee Wednesday, issued subpoenas for the testimony of Rove, former White House counsel Harriet E. Miers and deputy White House counsel William Kelley. Each was mentioned in e-mails retrieved from the Justice Department regarding the planning to dismiss federal prosecutors.

Democrats rejected Bush's offer this week to have Rove and other advisers testify behind closed doors, not under oath and with no transcript of the meeting -- an offer administration officials called "extraordinarily generous." They said the move would give Congress information while protecting the president's ability to obtain unfettered advice without its public airing.

"What we're told we can get is nothing, nothing, nothing," said Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.). He said it is essential to hear from Rove: "I know he's the decider for the White House -- he's not the decider for the United States Senate."

Subpoenas will not be served to Rove and others until the committee determines there is no hope of reaching a voluntary accommodation with the White House. Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.), the committee's ranking Republican, predicted that Bush will stand firm against his aides' testifying under oath, creating a legal showdown that could take years to settle and leave the committee with no new information.

Raw Story reported days ago that the subpoenas were approved:
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Schumer_Rove_Miers_subpoenas_authorized_ready_0328.html

Does it make sense C-Span would post up tonight something that is old news? Maybe I just want them on the stand, so to speak, so badly that I'm rationalizing!

http://www.c-span.org/videoarchives.asp?CatCodePairs=,

in the afternoon video, at 2:21:40, it says subpoenas "authorized" for Rove & Miers. Schumer also said, the claim for executive privilege has never worked, and so far, it's only taken months for the courts to decide that, not years.

65. Folks, there's a difference between "authorized" and "issued"
It was reported last week by Rawstory that the Senate Judiciary Committee "authorized" the subpoenas....the next step is to "issue" the subpoenas and that hasn't happened yet. Although, after yesterday, I suspect that may happen soon.

72. Once 'issued' and 'served' I would expect Rove and Miers to Move the Court to Quash...
... on grounds that include 'executive privilege.'

This will drag out the time needed until the Court arrives at a decision as to whether Rove and Miers have to comply.

However, the sooner the subpoenoes are issued, the sooner there will be an eventual resolution of this issue. I don't see the White House budging on this since there is so much corruption which could be exposed, especially if Miers tells the truth under oath.
