ASSOCIATED PRESS

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The U.S. Army plans to prevent media from covering Sarah Palin's appearance at Fort Bragg, fearing the event will turn into political grandstanding against President Barack Obama, officials said Thursday.

Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum told The Associated Press that Bragg's garrison commander and other Army officials had decided to keep media away from Palin's book promotion. He said the Army did not want the Monday event to become a platform to express political opinions "directed against the commander in chief."

"The main reason is to stop this from turning into a political platform," he said. "There are Army regulations that basically prohibit military reservations from becoming political platforms by politicians."

He said only one politician can use that platform, "and that person does it as our commander in chief."

2. Why is she even allowed on the base?
She is a private citizen with no official standing or business to be there.

5. Army Bases
Are just like cities, so anything can come and go if you get
permission. They sell most everything at a PX.

8. Not around here. (FL) they have gates with armed guards
I seriously doubt whether I could step foot on a base without and invitation.
And the local PX here in Orlando is off base, but still requires military ID to get in.

10. During my time in the service only military could purchase at a PX.
I have never heard that this has changed. It would seem strange to me since they were extablished to assist our military personnel.

7. Can I go and speak there in rebuttal then?
I too am a private citizen. Why can she speak there if I can't?

4. Isn't she a RepubliCON politician????
Didn't she run for VP? Wasn't she on a political ticket?

So how can this idiot get away with saying: "The main reason is to stop this from turning into a political platform," he said. "There are Army regulations that basically prohibit military reservations from becoming political platforms by politicians."

Just allowing her on the base has turned the base into a political platform. I guess the army commander likes pal'in around with Palin.

6. Why is that treasonous bitch even allowed on an American base? Can just
anyone go there and give a speech? Makes no sense to me unless someone big is promoting her ass.

9. The morning newspaper said the army gave in
and the media can cover the "event." The question is whether the same soldiers who eagerly wait to shake Obama's hand and cheer their C-I-C will support her.
