5. One of the comments wondered who Dick Cavett is . . .
Golly. That's all, just . . . golly.

I remember Phil Donahue had Dick Cavett on his program as a guest one time. He also had three other guys to make up a panel talking about one thing or another (hosting talk shows? I don't recall specifically). Anyway, Cavett was his usual wry self, making pithy observations, telling hilarious little stories, and generally stealing the whole show away from some pretty heavyweight competition. During the audience Q&A, one woman stood up, noted that Mr. Cavett seemed like quite a funny man, and had he ever thought of doing comedy?

Cavett rose in mock indignation, and imperiously asked if the woman truly didn't know who he was. Donahue stepped in with a knowing grin, and explained to the audience and the folks at home that yes, Mr. Cavett had indeed done a little bit of comedic work in his career, hitting seven or eight of the more notable people he had written for. Cavett, over his ersatz outrage, pretended to be mollified and resumed his seat on the stage.
