this "hcr" legislation that will pass. is it really health care reform?

no.

but it has the words "health care reform" attached to it, and that is all that really matters. politicians from both sides will get to boast that they were on the right side of the issue. and nothing really gets accomplished.

it reminds me of the "assault weapons ban." same kind of bill. did it ban assault weapons? no. but it had the words "assault weapons ban" attached to it, and that is all that really mattered.

the ignorant applauded a bill that didn't do anything to address the real problem.

as will be the case here.

and before anyone jumps in my shit for comparing the two bills... take a moment and think about which side of ignorant you were on for one or the other.

it might be enlightening...

1. The difference is that
HCR is likely to bankrupt the country. You collect 10 years worth of taxes for 7 years of benefits.

5. The country is already bankrupt from Bush's wars and
Tarp bailout...bout time the health of people comes first, right matey??
What part of deficit neutral don't you understand and what part of lowering the deficit over time don't you understand? Those are two goals of the bill and the CBO has figured out both the House and the Senate bills each will do that...plus people will have health care they can afford.

2. Tell it to the people who have pre-existing conditions.
And who will get coverage under this bill.

And the people who can't afford health care. And will get coverage under this bill.

3. Congress will give the insurance companies plenty of loopholes
so they can continue denying people with pre-existing conditions, raise premiums, and deny claims.

6. The error in your reasoning is that you assume that they are our representatives.
They are, instead, bought and paid for, on the whole, by the moneyed interests who are systematically destroying this country in the name of short-term profitability.

Our problems and our interests aren't even on their radar beyond the words they decide to use to wrap up the lie they sell us, Democrat and Republican.

Frankly, I'm pretty amazed by how quickly the Democrats managed to beat the hope out of me when 8 years of Bush couldn't do it.

Bush couldn't do it."

Wow. Me too, Kitsune, me too. :-(

Great post. The whole post is SO quotable, but it was the last line that really jumped out at me.

They do NOT represent us.

14. You and me both
I worked for the campaign, but my "hope for change" wasn't sky high because Obama and most other Dem candidates were short on specifics. Even so I'm amazed how completely what hope I did have has been ground into dust. It's sickening.

8. that's not my error. its yours. they ARE our representatives...
they were elected into office and they are the ones that get to pass the laws. the laws that effect us all.

you can deny that all you want. but those are the facts...

9. Oh, they were elected, sure, and the rulebook may say they work for us.
The problem is that once they get there, they start playing from the other rulebook. The one written by Goldman Sachs and Blue Cross.

I'm not saying every elected official is a crook, but far and away the majority of them are. It's an occupational hazard, it seems, no matter which letter you have next to your name.

10. i feel you, bud. but the facts are what they are. i don't like it. you don't like it. but it is...
what it is.

we can say gore won the election in 2000. the truth is he didn't.

because the dude that was in the office was not gore.

the dude making the decisions for eight years was not gore.

it bothers me that so many of us here are so delusional about our government and what it actually does. we wish a certain outcome. the facts are different.

so it bothers me when posters say that our representative are not our representatives.

they so totally are.

and they get to pass the laws.

because, they are our elected representatives.

do you get it now?

11. You really are missing the point here.
Yes, we elect them, because that is the system we have in place in this country.

No, they do not represent us when it comes time to do their jobs.

The system is completely broken and I do not think there is a way it can be fixed. Assuming a literalistic stance regarding the word "representative" is certainly not one of them.
