Colo. billboard links Obama with jihadists

By KRISTEN WYATT, Associated Press Writer Kristen Wyatt, Associated Press Writer – 2 hrs 41 mins ago

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – A billboard showing President Barack Obama wearing a turban has sparked a lot of attention at the suburban Denver used car dealership that put it up.

The sign, completed Friday by artist David Lee, shows a grinning, cartoonish Obama and bears the words "PRESIDENT or JIHAD?"

Underneath the president's image is a big yellow square with the phrase, "BIRTH CERTIFICATE, PROVE IT!"

The words "WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD" appear at the bottom of the billboard at Wolf Interstate Leasing and Sales, about seven miles west of Denver. The sign is visible from Interstate 70.

Lee said there were plenty of honks as he painted it.

"One lady came by and gave me the 'shame, shame' look," said Lee, of Arvada, another suburb of Denver.

2. When I think how many times myself and others
restrained ourselves from committing crimes ( yes crimes!) like this against Bush/Cheney out of respect for the office and our communities, I want to hurl.

What a bunch of classless treasonous creeps. And I'm talking about those in a position to stop this.

6. Granted, but it's vulgar free speech.
It reflects badly on a community that frequents a business that sees fit to compare our president to a terrorist.

They can't assassinate him so the assassinate his character. If enough people complained, that billboard would
be down tomorrow.

9. Ah, but I can also remember laughing my
ass off at the Bush/Hitler "Same shit, different asshole" signs. Though I don't personally know anyone that even remotely supported Bush, I'm sure Bush supporters would have been outraged at seeing those signs.

I remember quite a few years back reading an article about how a neo-Nazi group had followed all the rules and applied for a permit to hold a demonstration. (I don't recall exactly what city this was but, at any rate, it's irrelevant.) As I said, they had followed all the rules, crossed all the T's and dotted all the i's, but the city tried to turn them down on the sole basis that they didn't agree with what the neo-Nazis stood for. A lot of people supported that decision but others, including myself, were appalled by it. Now before anyone accuses me of being a neo-Nazi, let me state that nothing could be further from the truth. I stand against everything they stand for. But at the same time, I will stand with them in their legal RIGHT to hold their demonstration and I will defend them to no end in their fight for that right. However, once their petition is approved and they get to hold their demonstration, I will be standing across the street with the counter-demonstrators. I can only hope they would understand the significance of that.

Silencing those viewpoints we don't agree with goes against the very basic right to freedom of speech and that's something I will not tolerate. So, as offensive and idiotic as that Obama sign may be, the people running that business have every right to post it. And car buyers have every right to take their business elsewhere and let the business owner know exactly why they are doing so. It all comes down to freedom of speech and, in the end, that's something that goes both ways.

8. Wait...clue me in. Is Obama at fault for Ft. Hood now?
I mean the leap to "Jihad" and then the Ft. Hood reference seems like a leap beyond the birth certificate dipshits that Evel Knievel would admire.

12. Oh, man - suburban Denver is a toxic place.
It's about as beady-eyed as Wichita Falls, but with shinier RVs.

13. Free Speech goes both ways...
and we have been having a complete blast calling these idiots all day to demonstrate it.

720-898-9019 is the best number to call. We're working on a bingo card for the responses that the poor schmuck who picks up the phone gives you.
