1. I mailed my donation to DU the other day and told Skinner

I do not want a star - to give it to someone else. In these times of unemployment and poverty I feel those stars are discriminating against those who can't afford to donate.

It's gonna get worse before it gets worse.

2. I wouldn't say it discriminates.... 95% of the site is free, just with ads.

I think the stars are a good way to encourage people to support DU. That was nice of you to donate your star! :)

24. It's not just the ads

I was a regular donor until I became unemployed. Ads don't bother me, it's the searching and finding replies to posts I've replied to that I find somewhat cumbersome. You go to my posts, see that someone has replies to one of your posts or replies and then have to search through several pages to find the original post to find said post. Other than that, I don't feel that much of an outcast.

6. The neat thing about the members here is that there is no discrimination

Those who are able to give, do so very freely and share their stars with those who can't

The generosity of those who donate to DU is amazing. They could easily just donate and go on while leaving those who don't or can't without the star or benefits.

But it does not happen that way, everyone shares.

17. I'd really like to donate

but All I can scrounge up is a pittance, I'm talking about a buck or two. I don't think that warrants a star or anything, so I guess I am conflicted. Is there some way to donate without getting a star or rather the red banner "I donated" thing.
