Is It Time to Stop Picking on Glenn Beck?

It's easy to make fun of Glenn Beck. We've done it here, and Beck even does it himself (as on the November cover of his Fusion magazine).

But over the last couple of weeks, as Beck lay recuperating from appendicitis, he's been the target of numerous satirical skewerings, from such parodists as 'Saturday Night Live,' 'The Daily Show,' and 'South Park.' Some of these barbs have gone beyond mocking his on-air antics and have gotten viciously personal. Not that we want to be the Beck-lash police, but to paraphrase a well-known Britney Spears fan, is it time to leave Glenn Beck aloooone?

Yeah, animated programs like South Park can just re-tool an episode on a dime if the target of their program suddenly takes sick. For someone of Mr. Beck's means, appendicitis is a minor, survivable event. For the people Glenn Beck attacks from his television and radio platforms, they have no effective means of answering back, are in even worse shape than a multi-millionaire spending a couple of days in the hospital, and are on the receiving end of viciously personal attacks.

So, under the well-known "goose and gander" principle, I find that it is decidedly NOT time to stop picking on Glenn Beck. If he's feeling some pain, he's in the best position to stop it. What's more important to him: Rupert Murdoch's fat paychecks or his self-respect? The choice may already be beyond recall, but I see no evidence of remorse or regret from Mr. Beck. Carry on, good citizens.
