Sarah the Quitter leaves hundreds of wet fans steaming when she leaves book signing early
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 03:53 PM by BurtWorm
Yes, another Palin thread to unrecommend:

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/11/20/palin-angry-book/

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin was in Indiana yesterday for a book-signing at a Borders store. One thousand lucky fans with wristbands to meet Palin stood in the rain all day waiting for her to arrive. However, Palin quit the event before she had the chance to sign all the books, leaving 100 supporters out in the cold:

“I’m very disappointed. I think it was very rude. She could have at least apologized, and she didn’t even do that,” said Teresa Hedrick. <...>

“We bought two books from Borders to have our receipt and our wristband to get it signed tonight,” said one woman. “My books are going back to Borders tomorrow.”

“We gave up our entire workday, stayed in the cold. My kids were crying,” said one man. “They went home with my wife. She was out here in the freezing cold all day. I feel like I don’t want to support Sarah.“

People who didn’t get to meet Palin “went home only with a piece of paper with Palin’s signature.” Video from the event shows angry wristband-holders loudly booing Palin and yelling, “Sign our books!” and “Quittin’ on the job!” <video at link>

Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 04:51 PM by peaches2003
why have I not seen a word of this on MSNBC or CNN? They have given her millions of $ worth of free publicity for her book tour, but all positive (that I have seen). They should cover this for the same amount of time. The articles I read online about this said 300-400 left standing in the rain in IN and they now have cut back to 500 from 1000 the number who will get wristbands because she is staying 3 hours at each stop and not a second more.

AND when is child protective services at one of these stops going to get on that bus and have a little discussion with her about the care Trig is getting? Again she's hauling him around at night like a sack of potatoes for the crowd's applause like she did in the campaign.

Came 10:00 pm, Moore had been signing solid for a good three hours and the line still wrapped around the building. The building super came in to announce it was time to go. After a few words Moore pulled out his checkbook waved in the guy's face, "I'll pay the extra on the light bill, the security guards' overtime, whatever, but we are staying here until everybody who wants a book signed gets a book signed."

An example:

Jordan Harris. I just spent 9 hours of my day, $40 of my hard earned money on two of your books, and took the whole day off work to watch you jump on a bus and throw a half-heated wave to the crowd you were avoiding.

I have never felt so disrespected. How can you claim that you are different? You aren’t. You are just as selfish as everyone else in Washington. It breaks my heart. I thought you might be the answer to the turmoil this country is under but you aren’t. You just slapped hundreds of Hoosiers in the face. The hard working type of people that you claim to represent.

As Celtic Diva said at her blog, "We told you so."

50. She pulled the rug out from under her fans here in Columbus as well.
The third day of Palin's book-signing tour was a smashing success, although it did not turn out happily for all. Borders had announced that the first 1,000 in line by the store's 10 a.m. opening would be guaranteed to get their books signed, two per person.

But Palin's staff called the Sawmill store early yesterday and told managers to cut back to 500 wristbands, causing hundreds to be turned away.

"The reason was she was not able to get through all 1,000 wristbands," said Misty Bohland, general manager. "Everybody's upset with Borders, but Borders was just doing what Palin's event staff asked us to do."

Rex Eberle, 53, a Columbus insurance salesman who waited in line for nearly four hours, was not mollified.

"I'm not blaming Sarah Palin or her people, but what I'm saying is why didn't Borders communicate this to people at the store?" Eberle said. "They let over 700 people stand in line and knew full well they wouldn't get a wristband."

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2009/11/21/palin21.ART_ART_11-21-09_A1_TDFOFBK.html

So let's look at what happened. Palin had promised she would sign books for 1000 people. At the last minute, her staff told Borders to only let 500 people in instead. Some were disappointed and what was their response? They blamed someone else (Borders) for Sarah's screwup! Boy, when her supporters say she's "just like them", they're not kidding!

Just look at what supporter "Rex" said: "I'm not blaming her, but why did Borders screw up?"

These people are pathetic.

54. I especially like the defense of her disastrous Couric interview.
To her worshippers, her staggeringly awful performance was entirely Couric's fault. The level of denial at Camp Sarah long ago achieved psychosis. I'm beginning to think it's not a joke to refer to this form of conservatism as a mental illness. Surely what we are seeing here is not "normal cognition". There's something wrong with people whose brains work this way.

I just don't believe the number of totally brain-dead morons, people with no life whatsoever, with the time (let alone the motivation) to camp out all night and day to have a book signed by someone who can't even read, let alone write "her own" book, someone who has shown the world in numerous interviews that she is dumber than a sack of rocks. I think it's the same old repuke astroturf crap. They fly people around to bookstores to "wait in line" and try to drum up enthusiasm for the moose-shooting illiterate freak.

55. Let me get this straight
They gave up a day of work and stood in line all day to get a freaking book signed? These people seriously need to get a life. And now they're saying they won't support her, but WTF were they supporting her for before this? If it was for her skill and experience in governing and her sound policy positions (stop laughing), those haven't changed, so what's the problem?

Bottom line is, this is all about celebrity. Sarah Palin wants to be famous, and these sheeple that flock to her want be able to say they were around a famous person. And I'd be very interested to know how many of the people who got an autographed book will ever actually read it.
