Police: Money from Patterson ‘fundraiser' misused

I can't even believe there are people like this.

Advertised as a fundraiser for the family of hit-and-run victim Gordon Patterson, a Sept. 27 car wash drew hundreds of dollars in donations from the public.

Now, police say, most of the money is missing and fundraiser organizer, Mallory P. Ewart, is suspected of siphoning it to help bail defendant Antonio Cellestine out of jail.

Ewart, 18, of Vancouver was summoned to appear in Clark County District Court Nov. 24 to face a charge of third-degree theft by deception. A city prosecuting attorney, Kevin McClure, filed the misdemeanor charge on Nov. 3.
