CafePress vs Zazzle: What did we learn?
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 12:25 AM by sjdnb
Zazzle actually believes that TOS/User Agreements mean something and are not too gutless as to enforce them. They also get the whole "Free Speech" vs hate speech/threatening/inciteful thing.

CafePress is more interested in $$$s vs enforcing their TOS/User Agreement that actually gave them more leeway (compared to Zazzles) AND FURTHER, will allow threatening, hateful, speech, even against the POTUS, as long as the offender's account is current (paid).

Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 12:56 AM by Ian David
... maybe I'll open a CafePress store selling "Pray for Fred Durham Psalm 109:8" T-shirts.

5. We learned that
kneejerk reactions that target the wrong people aren't limited to the wingnuts.

You want to support CafePress, and the type of products they see fit to allow, per their TOS, it is your right. No one is forcing anyone to leave CafePress. We are just making people aware of the kind of thing CafePress seems to find acceptable products.

I and many others find those products objectionable and choose to exercise our right of free speech to say so - without inciting violence or using biblical verse to call for the death of anyone.

8. "Target the wrong people"? You don't think cafe press deserves
going down from DU?

I know zazzle has stupid anti-Obama stuff but they aren't okay with Advocating Assassination tee shirts.

13. I agree with you on the threats and inciteful language because those are illegal
Edited on Fri Nov-20-09 09:14 AM by aikoaiko
but hateful language is not. And falls within that category of "free speech" that should be honored by retailers if they inclined to see themselves as sellers of people's political thought.

I wouldn't want to boycott cafepress for the Psalm merchandise any more than I would want to boycott Barnes and Noble for selling Main Kampf or a Glenn Beck Book.

What next? Should DU stop Google advertisements because of the things that Google advertises?

Pray for Fred Durham Psalm 109:8
http://shop.cafepress.com/pray-for-durham

Feel free to steal my image and use it anywhere you like.

Also, for the pacifists (and Atheists) among us, I plan on making a "Masturbate to Fred Durham" shop as well. But CafePress rules forbid using photos of "celebrities", so you can't put his photo on a shirt.

But here is his photo, in case you're interested:

Pacifists and Atheists may masturbate to a photo of Fred Durham, instead of praying Pslam 109

16. Guess I've missed something. Yrs ago I scored some anti-Bush shirts via CafePress
... if I recall the site was "a rose is a rose," or something ... but it was all full-on, anti-Bush/Repub material...and they had outrageous, hold nothing back designs/messages. I wore a two-sided, Big Brother Bush 666 shirt to a Kerry rally back in 04, and it drew multiple pos remarks and questions as to where I'd gotten it.
