WTF? The ACLU just hung up on ME! lol

Actually, it's not funny...I don't think so...but it's the perfect ending to a day that has had me thinking how so many are at their breaking point. The rudeness and blatant anger toward strangers is occurring to a degree I've never witnessed before.

There are many worthy organizations and I get a call from at least one of them nearly daily, but I can't even donate $10 to each one of them or I'd be more broke than I already am, so I have made it a policy to stop them right away -- so I don't waste anyone's time -- and explain that I'm sorry but I can't donate and wish them well.

I just received such a call from the ACLU. Calls from political organizations are often a call to action, not necessarily financial solicitation, so I wait to hear what they are calling about, in case it's something I can act upon.

After the 15-second intro, when it became apparent he was calling for a donation, I nicely explained that I'm giving my time as best I can to various causes -- political and otherwise -- but I'm not able to commit to helping financially.

The response was, "Well, WE'RE committed to helping defend YOUR Constitution 24/7!" in a really angry tone, and he hung up!

Ouch.

I'm just not answering the phone any more.

I can imagine one every so often will get short tempered.

It's just indicative of the simmering rage and frustration out there, IMHO. Everyone's tired, frustrated and angry, and it's being vented in inappropriate, unfair ways.

You're right though. There's no sense in me taking offense and continuing the cycle of frustration.

5. No organization has ever wanted anything from me but money.

I've often offered to do volunteer work for them because I can't afford to donate. I've always been refused. Try it next time you're solicited and see what happens.
