Rudy's running for Senate next year against Gillibrand
Rudy Giuliani to run for U.S. Senate; If elected may aim for White House in 2012

ormer Mayor Rudy Giuliani has decided not to run for governor next year - but will run for U.S. Senate instead, sources told the Daily News.

A source familiar with Giuliani's thinking said the failed presidential candidate has been telling people he plans to run against Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010 to fill out the remaining two years of Hillary Clinton's term.

If elected, the source said, he could use that as a stepping stone to run for President in 2012 - rather than run for re-election to the Senate.

A Giuliani spokeswoman downplayed the reports. "Rudy has a history of making up his own mind and has no problem speaking it," she said. "When Mayor Giuliani makes a decision about serving in public office, he will inform New Yorkers on his own."

He has proven he can be elected in NYC and if he can keep the upstate reps with him he will be formitable.

3. Gillibrand will pound him.
She's been a pleasant surprise since she got into the Senate--moving further left than she was as a Rep.

7. I wouldn't bet on that. A Marist poll is already out and he's up 12 points
over Gillibrand.

8. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Once Rudy's back in the spotlight his numbers will drop--that, and his utter inability to run a campaign for anything bigger than mayor.

11. Yeah I think she has a good chance against him
If Cuomo runs it is going to insure a large Democratic turn out in the state. Gillibrand is pretty much not known at all. Polls at this point basically reflect how much voters know about candidates. Dems have 1 year to get voters familiar with Gillibrand. Giuliani hasn't exactly wowed voters in recent attempts/ failed attempts to run for office. His inability to figure out if he's running for senate or governor demonstrates once again, he's not a very good candidate.

4. Meh...
He's not "conservative" enough and the tea baggers will slap their own man on the ticket...or have him run against Rudy.
