2. but you have 'choice'. don't you LOVE all the choices you have thanks to
private health insurance! ok... sarcasm is my defense mechanism. This is ridiculous. When are people going to get that even if you ahve good insurance today is no guarantee it will be there tomorrow!! especially for someone with a serious health issue. I am sure you probably make too much for any state insurance, assuming it is even available where you live. You probably make too much. we are under by $200.... 130% of the poverty level here. but i only have depression, so... i could theoretically survive without going to the doctor assuming i don't go over the edge.... but diabetes is serious business. how do these people sleep at night!! how the hell do insurance companies get away with doubling their cost like that. i hope you can get some help.

3. Is it being doubled because you're diabetic?

6. I don't think so
Edited on Thu Nov-19-09 04:23 PM by Epiphany4z
we get out insurance through my husbands work and it goes up every year...last year it went up it was a big hit for us...it went up a little over an extra 150 a month..this year...it is going up another 86 A WEEK. I am just crushed. About the only extra thing I have left to cancel is my internet connection and that wont cover the increase. We don't have car payments, never go on vacation, shop at the local thrift store....all I have is my house and my health...now I have to pick one.

4. Here's something to think about
Figure out how much your meds, etc. cost.

Compare that to the cost of insurance, especially the new premiums.

You may have reached a point where it's cheaper to buy everything on your own than to pay the insurance company big bucks to subsidize you.

In other words, do the math.

I am not diabetic, but if I get another whopping increase in insurance premiums at my next birthday (one of the birthdays at which premiums typically increase a lot), I will be in that situation, but it doesn't scare me as much as it used to, because with my high deductible, I'll be bankrupt anyway if I ever have a serious illness.

7. I'm sorry to hear that
At the company I left last year I had to drop it because it kept going up until I couldn't afford it any longer. It's such a scam and there are people out there who actually believe that the insurance companies have their best interest at heart.

8. This shit is NOT fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's criminal to force people into this position. Choose between your home or insurance.

9. I use one of the many free/ low cost clinics. Try this site to find one:
http://www.needymeds.org/free_clinics.taf

Some people have the idea these kind of clinics are over-crowded and unpleasant, but that is not what I experience. Low cost dr. visits for the scripts and generic drugs are well under today's monthly insurance fees.

10. Welcome to my world
but be really careful and make sure you run the numbers. Make sure you can pay for your care plus bank 10% toward emergencies and come out ahead. Otherwise, it might be better to get used to living on beans and rice and fattening the insurance management.

If the House bill passes as is, they've got another 5 years to rob and kill us.
