Lieberman launches Fort Hood hearings without any government witnesses
Sigh. Why won't he just go away?

Lieberman launches Fort Hood hearings without any government witnesses
By J. Taylor Rushing - 11/19/09 02:20 PM ET

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) held the first congressional hearing into the Fort Hood shootings with minimal cooperation from the Obama administration.

No administration officials appeared at Thursday’s Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee hearing despite requests by Lieberman.

President Barack Obama had pressured House and Senate panels to hold off on congressional investigations until federal authorities finished their probe into the killings of 13 people at Fort Hood, but Lieberman decided to go ahead with his panel’s work.

The panel is looking into communications between the accused killer, Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, and Muslim extremists to see whether agencies missed key warning signs that could have led them to intervene before the attack on Fort Hood.

Lieberman said he asked Attorney General Eric Holder and Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Wednesday to allow employees under their command to testify. The senator said both men said they respected the need for a congressional inquiry as long as it did not hamper the federal criminal investigation.

It will “be difficult” for the panel to fulfill its oversight responsibility “without the cooperation of the executive branch,” Lieberman said in his opening statement. He said it was “an investigation that is as serious as any this committee has ever undertaken.”

2. Why doesn't Reid pull this asshole out of the chairmanship?
The guy is just grandstanding and the Dems don't have any reason to put up with it.

4. Doctors at the hospital said the wounds coming in looked like rifle wounds they had seen in Iraq..
Army intelligence and FBI are trying to locate witnesses who said they found rifle casings on the floor of the processing center.

Not enough info available yet for Joe-The-Backstabber to make a decision...and the media has moved on.

We do know the Female Police Officer "Jessica Lynch" story was false. (Like the Pat Tillman story) She did not bring down the shooter. Old news...

11. This is proof positive
That the Democrats as a party have sold out. I feel bad for those truly there to serve the people, that they must endure spineless leadership manifested by the likes of Harry Reid. It's a sorry scene that the "game" of politics has trumped the "purpose". A two party system that represents limited change and inability to champion people over monetary concerns.

15. There is a reason I said sold out
It's because I've been paying attention to the money trail. Much of the information that formed my current opinion was found in the book; The Wrecking Crew, How Conservatives Rule, by Thomas Frank. The fact that there is a revolving door wherein 50% of departing Congressmen are becoming lobbyists is revolting. To me there is a big difference between the Sherrod Browns and the Charles Rangels. Further, I disagree with the constant self voting of raises, and I think there should be a limite on terms served and campaign finance reform that isn't gutted by follow on legislation, such as the 527 PAC crap that nullified any purpose of McCain Feingold.

16. What's incredible is that after he campaigned with
McGramps and undermined all Democrats he was allowed to chair any committee.
